On 25th March 2018, Sitar Player Rishabh Seen became the Youngest & First Sitar player & Indian Classical Musician to become one of the headliners of the Ragam, NIT Calicut by National Institute of Technology Calicut in Kerala.

Usually college festivals are known to invite Singers, Rappers or other vocal centric pop musicians or bands to Headline an event. It's rare for this spot to be entrusted and given to an Instrumentalist, that too to a 21 Year old Indian Classical Instrumentalist. Breaking this loop, Sitar player Rishabh Seen took the stage as the headliner to perform for around 3,000 people & performed an enthralling dual set in which he presented the traditional Sitar Vadan in Raga Bihag for the young audiences for them to experience, feel & develop a connection to Bharat's own traditional music & sound through Bharatiya Shastriya Sangeet. In the second half Rishabh presented a SITAR METAL set with songs from his first album Mute The Saint & unreleased songs from the upcoming album Sitar Metal for the audiences to experience the sheer Shakti of Bharatiya Shastriya Sangeet & Heavy Metal coming together, resulting in a one of a kind third-eye opening experience.

On 18th February 2018, Sitar Player Rishabh Seen became the Youngest & First Sitar player & Indian Classical Musician to headline the Enterpreneurship Conclave by the E-Cell, GLA University in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh.

Sitar player Rishabh Seen took the stage as the headliner & performed a powerful dual set in which he presented the traditional Sitār Vādan in Raga Yaman Kalyan for the young audiences for them to experience, feel & develop a connection to Bharat's own traditional music through Bharatiya Shastriya Sangeet. Tabla Accompaniment by Mohandeep Bawra.

In the second half Rishabh presented a SITAR METAL set with songs from his first album Mute The Saint & unreleased songs from the upcoming album Sitar Metal for the audiences to experience the sheer Shakti of Bharatiya Shastriya Sangeet & Heavy Metal coming together, resulting in a one of a kind third-eye opening experience.

The trend of a blue-coloured traditional Sitar was started by Sitar Player Rishabh Seen way back in 2016. During a time when only travel/electric Sitars had different colours, traditional sitars were only limited to black and shades of brown. Rishabh Seen changed that forever by being the first Sitar player to bring new colours to the traditional Sitār. He named his signature Blue Sitar 'Saptarishi' and from 2016 he played blue Sitars. Rishabh Seen was also the first Sitar player to play a chromatic Sitar in 2019 during the India tour of his band SITAR METAL.

A Historic moment for Indian Classical Sitar Vadakas, Instrumentalists of Bharat & fans of SITAR METAL.

"As a Sitar Vadaka, I fulfilled this dream by staying true to my roots as an instrumentalist, never compromising amidst a music culture overwhelmingly centered on vocalists. Growing up, I observed that music was synonymous with singing - whether in cars in traffic, TV, schools, music festivals, malls, airports etc. vocal music was everywhere with no existence of instrumental music in mainstream culture, outside the world of Indian Classical Music. Instead of letting this discourage me, I positively drew inspiration to create cultural awareness for instrumental music, making it as accessible as vocal music. Coming from a family of esteemed Vadakas, I envisioned expanding the sitar’s global reach, which could only happen by taking it beyond the usual genres it was used in so that the youth worldwide could embrace, purchase & learn this vadya.

Be it Bharatiya Shastriya Sangeet & SITAR METAL, I’ve fronted all my music with the sitar & kept it entirely instrumental. Despite constant reminders that music held little importance without vocalists, I believed I could change this. I felt that collaborating with singers, actors, dancers etc. for their own projects was great, but that being the only way for an instrumentalist to build a career didn't sit right with me. I aimed to set an example for future Vadakas, showing that as instrumentalists, they didn't have to rely on including singing in their music or themselves become singers to be heard or be famous. So, to me, at least taking the first step to establish instrumental music as its own culture on its own feet in both streaming & live was what mattered. Success to me, meant achieving this on my own terms-through the sitar & instrumental music alone, & with Prabhu's bal, I did" - Sitar Player Rishabh Seen.

Image from February 2018. Since my childhood I used to see Indian Classical Musicians get mobbed by many people which would often include very few young people. I would often wonder what lacked and what was the way to get the youth to finally pay attention to Indian classical Musicians and more specifically Instrumentalists. When you see this picture above there's about a hundred people mobbing me as my sangatkar (accompanist) mohan took the picture. From the eyes/perspective of a rapper that's probably nothing, but if you look at it from the eyes of an instrumentalist, Vadaka- it's absolutely insane. When was the last time a 21 year old Indian Classical Sitar player got mobbed? That too in the pre-covid era.

This was one of the things the younger me used to dream about and aim at. That someday a Vadaka (instrumentalist) will have some level of hold and fame specifically on the young generation where they would want to come out to your shows, be around and with you and be interested in Vadya Sangeet/instrumental music. I wanted to achieve this level without ever turning into a singer or being a vocalist at all, by being strictly a Vadaka (instrumentalist) and today I can say I already did it in 2018. Pre-reels era, Pre-Instagram era when reels weren't even a concept.

After every show from stage, I also was the first Sitar player to give my sitar to the crowd and have them hold it and take a picture with the crowd which is somewhere in the @sitarmetal Documentary. Again, even that was a childhood dream. My entire journey is an ode to Vadya Sangeet & Vadakas, instrumental music and instrumentalists who without kneeling to the norm of singing or becoming singers side by side for the same of fame, stay true to being instrumentalists and let fame of any small or big level come to the Vadaka (instrumentalist). And once again, I did it 10 years ago. And maybe all this is just the beginning.

In the pre-instagram reels world, by the year 2017, Sitar Player Rishabh Seen had reached a point where his SITAR METAL videos, both originals & cover versions would not only go viral in India, but garner global attention & headlines. As the result of his popularity in November 2017, Rishabh Seen received a call from Mumbai where a person from the legendary Bollywood Singer Arijit Singh's team told him that they wanted Rishabh Seen to join Arijit's band on the Sitar as Arijit Singh was familiar with his work & had seen his videos. Hence, Sitar Player Rishabh Seen was hand-picked and invited by Arijit Singh which resulted in him touring with the band for almost 2 years across America, Canada, India, Europe, South Africa, Dubai & Qatar.

Rishabh Seen became the youngest musician in the Arijit Singh & World Musicians group. A young Sitar Vādaka from Jalandhar Punjāb, Rishabh Seen was playing Sitar in arenas & Stadiums with Arijit Singh all across the world at the age of 20.
