The Beatles, in India 1968
when people try and compare hippies to new agers im like theres some nee ager hippies but . oh my god please new agers make me so upset . you knlw the mfs who just co opt every nonwestern practice like a queer discourse major collecting slurs like pokemon cards. being a hippie is about choosing love in the face of evil and just smoking weed taking shrooms tripping out and the melding of eastern (especially indian) culture and music styles. im
(my collection of sitar osychedelia)
people will say shit to me without knowing how indian music wrosk . see in northern indian classical music they dont have written notations . its dum tarē ki ta dum dum na na and thats how they play the tabla (if someone who knows more about indian mysic would add on i would love to hear!) you have to train to play the sitar and have to have calluses or else the strings will cut your fingers.
see, in the 60s, they didnt have iphones. they couldnt just read a tumblr post talking about another culture and then go ahaha im gonna do this without understanding it. hippies WENT to india they STUDIED in india it is the ENTERTWINING of cultures. their clothes werent fast fashion slop. they were beautiful and inteicate and oh my god donovan . so pretty. he is one of THEEE hippies, (first major psychedelic artist, early psychedelia has roots in folk)
also, timothy leary: lsd advocate and who started the summer of love/hippie movement with turn on tune in drop out
the new age was the commercialization of it.
anyway, we should have another summer of love.
Keith Richards talks about Brian Jones in Uncut magazine, 2002:
"Brian’s on the sitar, I’m on the guitar [on Paint it Black]. And that was the other thing: adding that Eastern thing. Brian, he was a great fly-by-night. He could pick up any instrument and within 10 or 15 minutes be able to, like, pick up the rudiments of something and add an interesting sound to that. It was like Under My Thumb with the marimbas. Brian was one of those guys who’d say, ‘Oh look there’s a bunch of bells hanging there,’ and start clanging away. And we’d say, ‘Ok you’re on bells!’ [Laughs]."
Starrison, Lennison, Mcharrison or maybe Dylarrison?
No, sir, I prefer Sitarrison

If it was a piece of paper, I would tear it. If it was a bottle, I would break it, if it was a wall, I would tear it down - But it is my heart.
