Yeah, I guess! I mean, I stand by the joke as it makes me laugh, which is the truly important part, but if we’re being more serious, I guess I can roll with the idea that it’s not actually a holocron, even if I’m assuming it uses at least somewhat similar technology. Sort of like the difference between a phone and a tablet, they can do a lot of the same things, but not 100% the same and each has different uses and functions it specializes in.
And I’m even fine with that it looks like a holocron, because the Sith have certain aesthetics, just like my phone looks like a smaller version of my tablet, as well as it’s established that Force-wielding groups (or hell just ANY CULTURE WITHIN STAR WARS) have certain styles that they’re commonly using.
So, the Sith Wayfinder (The Rise of Skywalker) looks like a Sith Holocron (Rebels) looks like a Sith Relic (Resistance), they each have the pyramidal shape, but they all have slightly different functions.
It’d be interesting if they ever got into more detail--is one able to hold more information than the other? Is the navigation stuff within the wayfinder taking up so much space that there’s just not room for anything else/is something that couldn’t fit on a holocron or is it just a smaller scale version that has a specific purpose?
