Hey uh I’m super like, Astonished and very happy rn. I just discovered your Witcher/Tenacious D post and I’ve been saying this same thing for a while now and I actually put a lot of those songs on my Jaskier playlist. You have no idea how happy you have made me. Thank you
For the curious, we're talking about this post I made way back.
That is so flattering!! Always happy to hear when my work has made someone's day <3 It's so funny how Tenacious D just has that Jaskier energy XD
On a side note: @freckledsaint and I watched The Hexer (Polish Witcher movie) and we LOVED how they portrayed Dandelion and Geralt as besties and now wished we could've had that in the Netflix series (unless they are planning that to happen in later season??).
Anyway, enjoy a quick sketch of Geralt and Jaskier! I now live in The Hexer Universe where they are besties being silly and doing crimes and not abandoning each other.
God your latest Prisoners (2013) fix-it-fic for Alex has been in my head since I’ve read it. It’s just… it is real good. Thank you for writing good Alex content
Thank you so much for this comment!! It means the world to me <3
I poured my heart and soul into that fic, and I'm so grateful for all of the positive feedback ! thank yoou
You,,, I just binge read the entirety of “Dead I Live” in one fucking sitting and I DEMAND MORE OF IT!! /j
Jokes aside I am digging this so much and the creativity in this is *chef kiss* I am dying to see more of it.
Ehehehe thank you very much 💕 There will be more! I have one chapter that is being edited, so hold on tight!! though... that might have been the last of the sweetness for a while.......
Again, thank you very much!! 💕💕 I am a little puddle of happy!
I love your art style so much! It’s so expressive! What do you do to practice expressions like so? :0
Thank you so much!!
Facial expressions are my favorite thing to draw and I’ve been drawing them for basically my whole life, so most of “how I do it” is just internalized at this point (I almost never look at reference for ‘em, it just comes straight from my brain)… Plus everyone learns differently, so I don’t know how helpful any of this will be, but I’ll do my best!
First off, observational drawing is your friend! Quickposes, SketchDaily, and Line Of Action are all good drawing reference sites (you pick what kinds of photos you want and how long you want em to stay on the screen for, and the site will show you a random selection of photos from their archive) that give you the option to specify faces/expressions. Of course, you can also look at your own photos, or photos you’ve found on the wide wide world of web, or your face in a mirror, or drawings of faces (realistic, cartoony, whatever) that inspire you! Copying art that you like to try to figure out how the artist did it is a great way to learn!
And do different kinds of observational drawing! Just like with full-body poses, doing quick gesture drawings (between 5-30 seconds each) can help you figure out an expression quickly and notice how all the parts work together. And doing longer, more meticulous drawings where you really try to measure the distance between the features and see how they line up with each other can be just as helpful, because slowing down and trying to make an exact copy can make you notice things you might have glossed over otherwise. (If anyone wants me to go into more detail about this, let me know! I have a bunch of sketchbook pages of this stuff I can scan)
I personally am really bad at figuring things out without specific instructions, so if there’s something I want to learn to draw, I find it helpful to look up a tutorial, take notes on the information in the tutorial, and then do observational drawing while thinking about the information in the tutorial (”oh, the space between two eyes IS equal to the width of one eye”, etc)
The info above is pretty all-purpose drawing advice, so for lively expressions in particular, a good thing to think about is squash and stretch. Facial features aren’t static, they affect each other. Try to notice what’s stretching (in what direction) and what’s squashing (in what direction), as independent actions and in relation to each other. (And try to think consciously about that when you’re drawing without reference.) Here’s me doodling on pictures of Rachel Bloom cus I like her face:
Also, asymmetry is nice, it really adds dynamism where a perfectly symmetrical face could look stagnant (like Bloom’s mouth in the bottom row pushing slightly left-of-center).
And for exercises to practice drawing expressions from your brain and not from a picture, I like to draw characters making an expression that matches my current mood, or to come up with scenarios/bits of dialogue because it can be easier to think “what kind of face would Ranma make if Akane stole his pudding?” than to think “I wanna draw Ranma, but uhhh…should he be like…happy, or…sad…or…???”
I hope this helps!

I just want to say I really like your art style and animations.
Thank you!! I wish I had more time (and patience) to do (and finish) animations with a little more happening in them, but regardless,, I really appreciate your words T__T <3
