It is so incredibly mind-blowing to stop for a moment and consider all of the women that came before me in life. All of the blood, sweat, and tears that have ever flowed over the Earth in its lifetime were borne of women, existing somewhere, someplace in the long passage of time. Our anatomy allows for future human life, yet this allowance itself should never be the entirety of our worth. Women deserve freedom. Opportunities. Representation. Equality. And most of all, respect. Women deserve to make their own choices in life. To have sex and love of their own free will and without the double standards placed onto us by men. To have no interest in “settling down” and starting a family. To pursuing a career or playing a sport that is considered “men’s work,” or a “game for men.” To not feel the need to look happy all the time or smile when we don’t feel like it. To be viewed as worthy without makeup on or our bodies devoid of body hair. To sit however the hell we want without being told to sit “like a lady.” To be who we really are, inside and out, and without the societal pressures and expectations that come with being a woman. To my fellow women- there will always be new hurdles for us to face and there will always be injustices thrust upon us because of who we are. Please know more than anything else, however, that you deserve all of these things and so much more. It’s time we truly realize that and start living for ourselves however we damn well please. I encourage you to lift up your fellow women and let your beautiful light shine always. The world needs you.
