THE TIMELINE OF KAILANI & SIMON

kailani & simon lee met in 2015 when kailani was working on her fourth album, aloha. the two had been connected through kailani’s manager to email after kailani had found simon’s work on soundcloud. they corresponded over email & collaborated on a bunch of tracks on aloha including, love like that, drunk on you, all that matters & i know.

after years of being friendly via email, texts, & social media, the two had their first real meet up in 2016 after simon dropped out of college & became more known in the music industry. only this time, he was known under the moniker won, instead of simon lee. they clicked as friends very quickly.

as won became more & more known, kailani’s friendship with him became dubbed as kaiwon. many people were convinced that they were dating secretly or that kailani was the reason for the break up of simon & his ex girlfriend, rhiannon. in truth, they were just really close friends who would never think about dating each other.

that didn’t stop people from shipping them & thinking that every love song they worked on was about the other. in 2016, they collaborated on the song real off of kailani’s ikaika which is about being real, open & vulnerable with someone. when the personnel came out & people saw that won had written it with her, it sent kaiwon stans into a frenzy.

although they have both been quite vocal about their friendship being nothing more than that, they have had cute moments, such as when they went out for lunch & played footsies in la & being caught dancing together at the wayfinder music festival. it seems like they sometimes go out of their way to tease & troll kaiwon shippers, but always maintain that they are just good friends.

he’s sweaty and probably a little too worked up to even hope to have a normal conversation with anyone by the time he leaves the dance floor. his mind is moving a mile a minute and he no longer feels like it’s solely the alcohol that’s sending his blood rushing through his veins but, rather, sheer adrenaline. whether that works to his favor or to his disadvantage, he isn’t sure, especially since the next person he lays eyes on happens to be none other than ₩ON, world famous producer ( and a lot cuter in person than on kendall’s computer screen, he notes ). the incident with nate on the dance floor has kendall feeling like he needs to prove something, to do something and so with only the slightest hiccup of anxiety ensnared around his heart, he flits over to tap the other’s shoulder, brightening his features with a smile. “ hi, ” he giggles nervously, slender fingers combing through stylized blonde locks, “ i know you probably get this, like, all the time so if i’m being too forward just tell me to shut up but i make music and you’re like, amazingly talented and cute and famous so i’d love for you to maybe give it a listen sometime? you can say no; i’ll wait until you walk away to cry about it, promise! ” it’s hard, just starting out in the industry -- kendall feels like he gets starstruck so easily and rambling word garbage comes out instead of carefully crafted and eloquent conversations. oh well, he’ll blame it on the quickly fading buzz.
