I just submitted my final revision thesis to the library. This is my acknowledgments page, with a small poem for my late mentor, Mary Overlie, that I wanted to share 💛✨

There are no words—

There are only particles, swirling and stopping…

...and starting again.

The infinite cycle of creation, ever reifying and re-reifying.

And the summer rain on our faces in Brooklyn is always happening

Even when it is mid-winter in Bozeman and you are gone.

Mary Overlie left this planet this morning. Her #SixViewpoints changed theatre and performance making for artists everywhere. She was a mentor and friend who changed my life for the better.

Finally the Six Viewpoints translated into text. Several beats, hardly a breath, my life is changed/changing. I immediately desired to engage, to go back, go forward, talk to those closest to the world of the Viewpoints.

This woman and her visionary @sixviewpoints shattered and reshaped the world of performance, of art, of creativity in ways that resonate through so much of the great works that are made today.  She and her work changed my life, and the life of countless artists. Mary Overlie is self-publishing her book -- finally, after decades of work and love and practice and philosophy, her articulation of The Six Viewpoints, titiled “Standing in Space,” will be available to us.
