A better analogy is that it would be like an American or Canadian in 1942 killing ethnic Germans to protest Nazi Germany's atrocities.
Hi, I have been going through your tags, and have found your work very insightful. I had a question about the timeline of Chiyoh and Hannibal's relationship, mainly because Chiyoh seems far too young to be a contemporary of Hannibal's. I would guess that Hannibal is about 45 and Chiyoh, no more than 30 or so. If Mischa died something like 35 years ago, then that was before Chiyoh was born or she was at most a toddler. So how did she get caught up in Hannibal's vengeance?
There are two possible answers to this question. One is that Mads is playing his maximum youngish, at 44 or so (sorry, he’s too wrinkly to pass any younger imo), and Chiyoh is playing older, at 36, maybe, which is unlikely also, but would only make them about 8 years apart and would make her 8 when they met (we have Hannibal’s date of being taken out of the orphanage from “Oeuf”), and about 16 or 17 when she stopped him from killing the firefly man, and their storyline would be possible, however improbable. I can buy it from her a little easier than I can buy it from him. XD
The other answer is that she’s actually same age as he is (~50) because Lecter Manor is not entirely a real place, but also exists alternately at the center of Hannibal’s mind palace. Time isn’t linear there: it slows and pauses and reverses and recycles until teacups come back together, and Chiyoh was caught in the vortex of this hot darkness and that’s why she was “standing still,” unchanged, not transforming as other characters on Hannibal do. And that’s why Hannibal already associates Will with the imago and is fascinated with transformation in the first place, because Will visiting his home and hanging the firefly man tableau happened in Hannibal’s past every bit as much as it happened in Will’s present, and it was a seminal moment in the formation of Hannibal’s identity and values and is, indeed, why he’s disposed to falling in love with Will in the first place.
You can have both, either, neither, or hand-wave the whole thing away. Take your pick.

Some Catholic Churches offer the liturgy in Spanish, I would try seeking out those churches first. Also, I know that Chicago and Philly (at least) have offices/programs that reach out to the Latinx and Black Catholic communities in their respective archdioceses. If your friend is in a metropolitan area, they might have something similar.

I think you do the difficult thing and contact the churches individually saying you are conducting research and would like to document members of colour. I am not a churchgoer at all so I would be honest about my intentions and my lack of knowledge.

(I was aware of the more international aspects of the Catholic Church myself, too! but Dude had like, zero clue. In his defense, I guess, many of the Latinxs in this city are Puerto Ricans who’ve gone into the Pentecostal church, so most of the brown folks he knows are in fact not Catholic. I guess I can see how that’d confuse matters in his understanding.)
My friend is actually looking for more specific subgroupings, people with specific experiences, for this project, but he figures he’s got to generally find the Catholic people of color first and then once he’s found them he can kind of drill down and look for the specific things he’s trying to focus on. (More generally-- he’s been doing portrait projects for a long time and while he shoots pretty widely, he has tended to take more photos of people of color in his wider practice, so this is not as strange as my description is making it sound. He has a beautiful Instagram full of portraits somewhere, I should find it and link it.)
The awkwardness is somewhat allayed, I think, by him being a man of color himself, and of a Catholic upbringing too; if I walked up and was like SO WHERE DO THE BROWN FOLKS GO TO CHURCH ROUND THESE PARTS EH it would be alarming and kind of gross, but if he’s like, uh hey guys, it’s a lot less weird. (He’s also a pretty charismatic guy, so he probably could just be like “So where do brown people live, around here” and it wouldn’t be creepy. I have trouble envisioning it but I have confidence he could do it.)
He’s got a few leads in as well, to the specific things he’s looking for, but he’s casting his net very broadly-- he’s started off in Syracuse, and has been looking into New York City, and cities in Massachusetts, and-- all over, really. So.

that’s all well and good, but it’s still surprising to me that a 4+ year old fic that would reasonably be at the bottom of the AO3 barrel would be something that would gain massive attention at this point in time when:
1) the way it tracks with canon is minimal. i wrote it during the first 4 episodes of Lucifer airing and the series got abandoned, and
2) it’s also hugely out of date by SPN standards as an s7 AU.
liiiike let’s be honest, it’s obscure as shit 😂 so it surprises me that if i sort my works by hits, that fic is #6 out of my 70 existing published works. that’s crazy to me! it hugely outpaces most of my current works, and has MORE KUDOS than Making Headlines, which is a 230k+ WIP that’s been ongoing for almost a year (and is definitely the better writing of the two, if I say so myself).
I’m glad the fandom is catching on and gaining ground! It’s a great show and deserves the attention, but the fact that The Devil You Know, of all my fics, is the one that’s exploded so suddenly like this is definitely a shock!
Okay, I'll call you petty, then. Samcedes was utterly shafted, going from an intense chase, a secret romance, two break ups, never to be mentioned again as Sam moved on to Brittany. Samcedes is interracial with a fat black woman actually presented as a desirable, sexual being (not a joke like other fat women on Glee) and a Southern white man. Thats a big deal and doesn't need to be pitted against Klaine in Representation Olympics as an unfair thing. Its the first fair thing Glee has done lately.

Glee also doesn't give a fuck about breaking stereotypes with interracial couples, since it's latest episode was about how interacial couples should be a thing because "the white guy deserves it cause he's such a nice guy that we can ignore his casual racism".
Also, the fact that Samcedes hasn't interacted in years IS EXACTLY my point.
THAT is why I'm comparing them to Klaine.
Klaine spent an entire seasin getting together, then had 5 semi god episodes, then didn't speek for 10 episodes, then didn't speen till the season after, then brok up for an entire season, then got back together in the beginning of season 5, THEN didn't speek for ANOTHER half season.
Samcedes despite having barely any foundation for their relationship, or even giving the audience a legitimate reason why they should be together, they're just yet another straight couple that just hooks up for the sake of hooking up.
Literally TWO episodes they've been together, and we have songs and private scenes and kisses.
THAT is my point.
Brittana had their first kiss AN ENTIRE SEASON after becoming an actual couple.
Kurt and Blaine literaly only kissed twice in a season within the same episode.

I'll defenately support the notion that Mercedes has also been shafted in terms of romantic storylines and that she deserves WAY better than Sam.
But let's not forget Mercedes HAS had love interests on the show and that she's had more than Kurt or Santana ever did in terms of same sex relationships. THAT is a FACT.

I am not sure how to reply to a post, but if you want to read an AMAZING Kurt/Blaine pagan fic, check out Beltaine by arainymonday. Its lengthy, erotic, and emotional and delves into a modern fae setting with Kurt and Blaine as magical beings. Changeling is another good fic by this author, but very different in tone---quite creepy.
Beltane is one of my favorite fics actually! arainymonday is one of my favorite authors as well; I've been wanting to reread Once In A Lullaby . :) Haven't gotten around to Changeling yet, but I definitely will one of these days.
