literally just read a q*jiu post side-eyeing b9 shippers because why would we ever ship ‘toxic’ characters together and hate on yqy and i’m like. *DEEP INHALE*

people act as if YQY’s only crime was not coming back for original SQQ and not telling him the truth but a fun list of things YQY had done to SQQ, specifically, in the PIDW canon:

- insists on calling him by a name that sqq practically considers his dead name

- continually oversteps in his personal space (stalks him all the way his own Peak, to the point that SQQ is reluctant to even speak to him out of his own volition)

- judges him for going to the brothels 

- never corrects the other PLs for the rumors around SQQ

- continually thinks the worst of him vs the other PLs (see: SQH gets a pass when he does ‘suspicious things’ but SQQ is suspect for being harsh on his disciples and/or picking with BZP -  the latter which the BZP disciples started)

- accuses him of LQG’s murder (even when he’s incarcerated in the water prison, good god, go hit a man when he’s down) when we extrapolate it. sure, YQY had good intentions for SQQ in their youth but it stops there. at most he is a nostalgic childhood friend and probably SQQ’s ideal romantic mate, but at the present he is a toxic person for SQQ, and if we’re going to talk about ‘bad’ characters for each other, i would say YQY is higher on the shitlist than LBH (because after alll LBH has every reason to do what he did to SQQ - justified yes, exaggerated - also true), if only for the reason that YQY should have been able to understand SQQ’s reasons and yet chose to never look past that instead.

Idk about y’all but YQY is not the good person SY all led you to believe - which doesn’t make him evil, it is only that he is a person who would have never treated SQQ properly, even if they were in a relationship, because he would always assume the worst of the SQQ (and sadly, SQQ would also think of himself that way.) all YQY wants is his little fiery Xiao Jiu, and SQQ has grown into someone unrecognizable. Neither of them can ever go back. It would be like dating your shitty ex for old feelings - only to realize neither of you are the same person anymore.

Hey, this is really random... but do you think there could be a chance that we are getting more than 10 episodes of SJ (or at least the final episode might be a bit longer)? I'm thinking this because I saw a post on Toonami's Facebook page that showed a 5 hour long SJ marathon that should be airing on the 27th May. 5 hours is is long enough to show 13 episodes of SJ, right? Sorry, it's been on my mind for a while and I wanted to share my thoughts with someone. I'm probably just over-thinking it.

However, I personally doubt there’s more than another 30 minutes. The marathon is all 10 eps strung together— when I went to the early preview show in March, Genndy mentioned that the whole season was meant to be watched as a “5 hour movie.“ 10 half hour episodes = 5 hours.

I know he’s said this is the last time he’ll work on Jack, but I also know things can change. Later on, he might decide that there’s more to tell, or maybe he wants to revisit lost plots, or something. Anything. I will keep looking forward to whatever else/new he brings to the table for us, because I respect him and admire his talent, but yeah admittedly a small part of me will always want him to keep making more Jack because I love this show.

But we’ll see! In the meantime he’s made clear he is giving free reign to anyone else that wants to fill in the gaps, so I’m with many others on this: Aku spinoff when??

it really kinda bothers me, those posts that are like “i don’t like when people say xyz because it lets people off the hook for such-and-such”. that really raises some red flags for me. most of the time i feel like the thing they’re criticizing deserves criticism, they could have said “xyz is misleading about the effects of such-and-such” or “xyz doesn’t reflect the reality of people’s experiences with such-and-such” but saying “i don’t like letting people off the hook” really creeps me out, it’s like saying “i was trying to manipulate these people, and you’re making that harder” so maybe if you’re not trying to manipulate people find a different phrasing.

people who do not put a high priority on being charitable, rational, and totally accurate in their speech often express things in a way that is less than 100% charitable, rational, and accurate.

with alarming frequency, i see people who value being charitable nevertheless responding to people who have said uncharitable things by being just as uncharitable, or even more uncharitable than the OP.

i would say "i can't take this community seriously" because it does make it really frustrating to stay in this community! but i really do care about raising the level of discourse, about continuing to strive for more honesty and kindness and treating people with justice

but raising the level of discourse is not just about choosing new acceptable targets who are different from the old acceptable targets. that's why i started reading sj-critical stuff to begin with! sj should be about helping people who are being hurt and if people are using it instead to hurt people who are insufficiently sj-literate then that needs to be addressed!

right now, despite the talk of raising the level of discourse, being honest and charitable, not being a breeding ground for abuse, etc., i'm not seeing that sj-critical/rationalist people actually treat their "the wrong people" better than sj people do.

i'm still here because i really do care about good discourse, the free exchange of ideas, genuinely safer spaces where hurt people can live with less fear

but this behavior is so goddamn frustrating!

Long post ahoy I hate the way that tumblr discourse operates like I could say anything but if I coat it in THE DISCOURSE I'm suddenly automatically in the right, even if I'm proven wrong. I demand accountability whilst ignoring that I should hold myself accountable for my own mistakes. Like I could say OH BEING BISEXUAL IS INHERENTLY OPPRESSION TO LESBIAN WOMEN and if I coated it in discourse it would be ok to say rather than the biphobic, erasive bull that it is. Or I could say LISTEN TO SEX WORKERS I'M PRO PORN but only have selective hearing from actual sex workers in the industry and not self employed saying that the industry is corrupt and oppressive. Or I could say KINK CULTURE IS INHERENTLY HETEROPATRIARCHAL and ignore that bdsm subculture arose from queer culture in the first place and is majority practiced by non cishet ppl. Like I'm not anti sj, as a queer disabled poor abuse survivor with mental illness. I am against the tumblr, self riteous, self aggrandizing, "you're a majority unless you state all your oppression in your side bar and you must see yourself as nothing but labels to categorically other people not like yourself". Like I like my labels but I am so much more than just them and it's not healthy to only label yourself in terms of identity because then you become very self conscious about it and see yourself only as those things rather than a whole. Speaking from experience. and there's a collective martyr complex when people feel that they have to claim to be the most oppressed in society to have an opinion, even if it's empirically incorrect. Case in point tumblr never discusses ableism bc its so focused on racism - disabled people are statistically the most oppressed in literally every area. But that gets ignored. Does that mean racism isn't important? No its just as important but any time that statistic is thrown about, to pull statistics that prove it to be incorrect is shot down as racist when really you just don't want to discuss ableism and are talking over disabled people and voices. I just want equal ground. Also, tumblr is so americentric. I'm tired of it. It ignores the nuance on a lot of issues - like in the West Japanese people are systematically oppressed but IN Japan it is that they are racist and imperialist and enslaved various countries and natives. But that conversation doesn't go on because of the focus on America and American issues. Other things that get ignored; various communist rules (we, as tumblr socialists etc REALLY need to differentiate and make it clear we don't endorse those regimes); Cypriot occupation by turkey; the destruction of wales' infrastructure in the 80s; the systematic oppression and genocide of the Irish; the troubles; cultural erasure of native Scottish/Welsh /Irish culture and dialect, as well as the sami, ainu, Mongols and so on; the caste system in India; various other occupations, militaristic campaign and genocide bc it doesn't fit popular narrative etc etc etc Which is just as erasive and oppressive You all claim to want to educate but you are more comfortable staying in this bubble and not educating yourself. Like you don't and shouldn't be expected to know everything but, the way you act you'd think you do. I'm tired of it. Especially stuff like ignoring Irish occupation, slavery, and claiming shite like "Scotland had a part in colonial England" as if it wasn't literally another colony and was used as slave labour, and Scotland benefitted NOTHING from colonialism lol. Like learn before you open your mouth.
