Just a heads up: don’t let anyone or anything make you feel bad for feeling happy, relieved, or safer than you felt a day ago. The system still has deep systemic issues and we will continue to work so hard, but we just nipped a growing dictatorship in the bud and our country - that usually has a low voter turnout - just cast a record number of votes for a candidate running against clear and explicit fascism. Against a president who refuses to leave office and tries to accumulate unilateral power. We will always have work to do, and we’ll do it, but you are not bad or awful for being happy, for celebrating, for being human. Don’t forget that these online spaces are echo chambers that often echo a staunch, singular view of how you’re allowed to react to political news.

We took a first step! We did that! Every vote counted and was counted, and now we have a tomorrow we can focus on fixing.

i’m still waiting for my pictures to upload, but i just want to say:

phoenix was 112° Fahrenheit today. Nevertheless, over 1,000 people marched for justice. for george floyd. for breonna taylor. for dion johnson, who was shot by arizona dps in phoenix on may 25th. for the “crime” of sleeping.

at 8pm, it was 110°F. arizona has an 8pm curfew. over 200 people have been arrested.

more than 1,000 people still showed up, in temperatures hot enough to cook an egg, and knelt and marched. even more stood on street corners or the backs of pickup trucks, offering water and masks and more water.

if that doesn’t inspire something in you, i don’t know what will.

EDIT: the 200 people figure came from an article that was about sunday’s protests. that is very much my mistake. as of 9:55pm here, 0 people had been arrested in connection with the 6/2 protests per ktar.
