Just finished my HoSaB reread (so my wife needs to hurry up and finish flame and shadow), and i am reminded that the pacing problems in that book are primarily because there are Too Many Things happening to Too Many Characters. I love Therion like a brother and there may yet be payoff to everything he does, but there was zero need for all of the Therion/blue court stuff in HoSaB from a plot perspective. Find someone else to assign the Emile quest to the Gang and you're off and running.
I'm assuming SJM is going somewhere with him/that plot because shes not in the habit of loose plot threads, but you gotta lay your plot groundwork a little better because his whole deal (and Ithan's for that matter) stick out like a sore thumb in an already overstuffed book as "crap, gotta put some background in here or a plotline im developing for two books from now won't make sense", and while I understand the need for that background, a book this jammed is not the place for it and its the root cause for the weird pacing
