Prompt 21 - Skele-Gro
@wolfstarmicrofic April 21, word count 546
“Oww, oww, oww!” Remus screamed as the transformation finally finished. He tried to move and wished he hadn’t. Something was very wrong with his hip. “Sirius,” he gritted out.Â
“I’m here, I’m here,” Sirius was suddenly at his side, holding his hand.Â
“Hip,” he spat from between his teeth. Sirius’s fingers brushed gently against his left hip and then the right. Remus screamed so harshly that his voice cut out.Â
“Just, oh shit, Moony. I don’t know what to do!” Sirius’s hands flailed uselessly above Remus’s body.Â
“Marlene,” he managed to gasp before the black dots that had been playing around the edge of his vision blocked everything out, and he passed out.Â
He woke up in his and Sirius’s bed back at their cottage. He tried to sit up, but something was keeping him from moving at all.Â
“Oh, hello,” Marlene beamed down at him as she unscrewed the cap off an odd-looking bottle. Remus squinted and groaned. He knew that bottle. “Open up,” Marlene ordered, and he dutifully obeyed.Â
Skele-Gro really was awful stuff. It tasted like grass clippings mixed with what he imagined the underside of a slug tasted like, and went down like a lit cigarette.Â
He coughed as the putrid mixture burned its way down into his stomach.Â
“Hip?” he asked.Â
“Hip,” Marlene nodded. “I had to remove your entire femur. It was shattered beyond repair.”Â
“Thank you, Marlene,” he told her.Â
“Don’t mention it. Seriously, don’t mention it. I was never here, and I certainly didn’t perform an operation or dose you with Skele-Gro.” Marlene was very almost a full-blown healer for St Mungo’s. Only one exam away. She most certainly wasn’t supposed to be doing what she was doing. But Marlene had always had a soft spot for Remus, and knowing about his furry little problem made her his go-to medical professional.Â
Sirius came in a few minutes later and settled himself in the chair beside the bed.Â
“Do not touch him,” Marlene warned. “Not even his hands. Leave him alone, or you might muck up the regrowth.” Sirius sat on his hands. Marlene narrowed her eyes at him. “Do I need to get Lily over here?” Remus flicked his eyes over to Sirius, and Sirius looked at him. In unison, they said, “Yes.” Marlene shook her head at them and went to go floo Lily.Â
“How are you feeling?” Sirius asked, leaning closer to Remus.Â
“Like I rolled down a fucking gorge as I was in the middle of a transformation,”
“I’m so sorry, Remus. I tried to stop you, but you were still changing, and nothing worked.” Sirius sounded so defeated.Â
“It’s not your fault. Besides, Marlene is fixing me. I’ll be good as new this time tomorrow,” he said, trying to cheer Sirius up.Â
“I love you,” Sirius told him, his hand coming up to rest on Remus’s.Â
“Sirius Orion Black, step away from the patient!” Lily barked at him, sending him stumbling backwards.Â
“Oh yeah, Lily was definitely a good choice,” Marlene huffed, her hands on her hips as she looked sternly at Sirius.Â
“Sorry,” Sirius grimaced and sat on the window seat so he wasn’t tempted to touch Remus again. Remus already missed his touch. This was going to be a very hard day.Â
