The very last step in this art quilt is of course the only thing I've never attempted before. 🫣
I'm going to try and machine stitch in the impression of finger tips in an ephemeral sort of fashion, so it looks like the hand is coming back to life as it touches the cloth above.

Skelly Studies!
Took me genuinely so long to realize- EVEN WHILE I WAS TAKING AN ANATOMY CLASS- how important it is to do skeleton studies every once and a while- regardless of your art style.
Even though by NO MEANS is anything I make perfect replication- it doesn’t mean I don’t learn from it you know? Like even just looking at the drawings next to the references as I type this I see so many things I could change to make it better- closer to the reference or however. But the fact I can examine it is really helpful. (to me at least)
I learn through repetition and pattern recognition- as well as watching other people’s process- so following a refrence then remaking it without one from memory (or even just in general) is so incredibly rewarding for me in terms of my art progression and learning the human body.
I will forever live by the phrase “learn the thing you’re referencing to a T BEFORE you start pushing the idea- BEFORE you start stretching the concept. You need to learn the basics and the original before you can push it.” Who said that? Great question- uh me. But actually- I hear similar things from lots of other artists who are a lot farther in their art journey than I am.
It doesn’t even just apply to anatomy either- like it could also work in the terms of if you’re redesigning a character or working within a specific art style. Like if I wanted to be able to sketch oh I dunno (SIMON FROM IRON LUNG or RYLAND GRACE/RYAN GOSLING FROM PROJECT HAIL MARY-) for no particular reason at all- confidently at least- I would draw them frequently- as often as I can and with references up the whole time of the people or characters or background or whatever I’m drawing (even if it’s my own work or characters!) up while I work! So if I’m unsure I’m not just guessing and going and moving on with a “mistake” throwing off proportions or however.
I dunno just my thoughts- it’s 2:50 am and I should sleep Lol.
