Added a few ribbons to mark the page and to tie the book together. Cover is 400g 100% cotton pre-treated canvas, painted with black acrylic and embroidered on the front. I put a thin coat of glue over the cover stitches for extra security.

Paper is 110mg acid-free sketch paper from Fabriano (leftover pages I ripped from an old sketchbook). 7 signatures with roughly 4/5 A4 sheets each folded in half (around 8/10 sheets per signature).

Endpages made with leftover cardboard tube, painted with a handmade stencil of a ladybug (also in black acrylics). Spine reinforced with aida fabric (sturdy and flexible).

Everything secured with common sewing thread and glue (UHU liquid and white glue). Roughly around 14 x 18cm. Lays flat.

Starting my first sketchbook binding!!

Ive been wanting to do this for a year or so now and I’ve finally decided to go for it — I’m doing a simple Coptic stitch binding with watercolor paper, we’ll see how it goes

in past two years i started disliking sketchbooks binded at the top and i started to bind my own - i found this old old sketchbook from flying tiger and i really liked the paper, so i cutted it apart and binded it with shiny gold and green threads :3

Hello, sorry for not seeing this sooner since I'm not active in Tumblr (and it looks like you might not be active on here anymore!) But for anyone curious, I buy my book binding supplies through mybinding.com and do it myself!! The coil I use is plastic, although, they do offer wire options. Also, I bought a machine to punch the hole for the sketchbooks so I can bind it myself. I find binding books myself is better than paying someone to do it and also for a while, I was selling custom made sketchbooks at conventions for a few years. Plus, I'm usually picky with my paper so I prefer binding my own stuff.

I haven't bought supplies in mybinding.com in a while so not aware of the current prices. Good luck to everyone that does want to bind / rebind their sketchbooks!!
