Skirnismal
Kostir ro betri heldr en at klökkva sé, hveim er fúss er fara; einu dægri mér var aldr of skapaðr of allt líf of lagit.
'There is always a better choise than cowardice, if you have an issue to handle; one day, long ago, my life was already shaped, and my fate was fixed.'
-- Skírnismál, st. 13
Hymn 75 out of ??? from The Great Heathen Hymn Book™️ (Working title)
Skirnir’s message to Gerd by W. G. Collingwood, 1908 To you, Gerðr, I sing nowThe maiden dearest to FreyWith your glittering armsFrom which
Reminder that Freyr's reaction to seeing a giant woman with beautiful arms was to become so deeply consumed by his feelings of longing that he refused to leave his room, and both his dad and his servant/childhood buddy had to confront him about it.
In doing this, great Freyr gave us one of the Biggest Moods in all of Norse myth.
Skírnismál is thus neither a purely Norse nor a purely oral composition.
Hey look you guys it’s the myth I love to hate.
Aaaaaand I've gone and done half of Skirnismal as haikus. I'm sure where this inspiration and motivation has come from but keep it coming and I might actually have the Haiku Edda finished by next yeat
More Skirnir (with a new color scheme) from the Skirnismal! Now starring his lantern and the dawning realization I never shade anything.
...There’ll be a real background at some point, I swear.
