Honestly I think that ships like Skullbashers and Pickpockets enhances the themes of found family in really nice ways. In such a cruel and unforgiving setting, the trio still managed to find something as beautiful as love.

Same with Roadkill. Two childhood friends realizing they love each other shows how far their bond has progressed, and it makes Dimitri’s inevitable departure all the more sad.
