Pff well thanks, I mean if you’re really interested most is online (I think it’s the most recent edit? Not sure.) and I can post the rest by request, but some warnings first:

I started writing without plot, just wanting to see where it goes, then later tried to add plot. The characters were underdeveloped (which I tried to correct) and there were way too many of them (which I did not try to correct). Despite constant rewriting I am of the opinion that I succeeded in none of these areas.

Also at 12 it sort of developed into a story where ‘fantasy species is discriminated against’ and everyone is white and straight. I later learned better, tried to add diversity in, and learn about racism and actually make real world references to the matter, but in the end the reason I dropped the novel was because I decided this wasn’t a story I should be telling (I’m sorry that took so long, it’d been a thing for maybe 8 years by then and I had attachments, I’m largely indifferent to it now, it doesn’t even feel like a thing i wrote).

The story reached its end chapters before I quit.

It just wasn’t good. I’m capable of better I think.

So if you want it here you go, but proceed with caution

Steven: What makes you starry-eyed?

I’m interpreting this as what makes me really happy. Right? So, I guess there’s when I do well at archery, it’s a really nice feeling to get all your arrows in the gold, or at least close to it.

And it makes me really happy when my nephews are happy to see me and come to ask me to do something with them.

I absolutely love it when someone reblogs something I’ve made and leaves nice comments in the tags; because it doesn’t happen often and it’s just such a good feeling to have someone appreciate something you’ve put time into. When people do that for me I carry on remembering it every so often and smiling for the next few days at least.

If someone were to get excited over my novel the way they do over Steven Universe or the like it’d probably take about one month for to calm down. Per comment. I feel so happy for people like Rebecca Sugar and J K Rowling, I mean imagine people being so passionate over something you made that they want to spend their time creating fan fiction and art and theorising and talking about it, and getting excited over every new instalment. I know it must be difficult to deal with certain fans and haters, but still.

Amethyst: How do you compare to people’s expectations of you?

This is kind of difficult, because I’m not sure what people’s expectations are. :/ All I can really say here is that the one time people usually say that’s not what they expected is when I tell them I have a tattoo; because apparently only certain types of people normally get tattoos (untrue).

Some of my friends in the past have expressed surprise when I told them I’ve suffered with anxiety- so I guess I somehow come across as a bit of a chill person at times (also incredibly untrue).

Lion: If you had infinite pockets, what would you carry with you at all times?

Heh, I already tend to take everything but the kitchen sink with me everywhere I go, but I guess if I could carry things around at all times then maybe my kindle, because it’s hard to get bored with that many books at your disposal. I’d say I’d take my pets with me, but I don’t think they’d like being in a pocket, no matter how big it was.

Ruby: Describe a person who would be the polar opposite to yourself.

Reckless, very active and sportsy. Not academically intelligent but good at reading people, at reacting to situations quickly and correctly deciding what to do on their own and basically not acting like an idiot when faced with day to day work life. Dislikes animals. Loves horror- especially with gore. An excellent musician and conversationalist.

Jenny: Favourite pizza topping?

I like Hawaiian! So ham and pineapple (with stuffed crust, mmmm).

Nanefua: What do you think you’ll be like when you’re much older?

I don’t have any desire to have any kids at the moment, but one of my goals when I’m older is to be the fun aunt who takes her nephews out to the cinema and the park and has a small zoo of animals at her house.

I’ve never really been into gardening or bird-watching or anything, but nature-even-at-home stuff is something I want to become better at. So I’d first like to imagine I’d have a cool animal related job that I enjoy, and then that it pays me enough to have a big garden I can do that sort of stuff with. (A big ask I know). I’ve found during my work experience that being able to create, maintain and repair things- fences, gardening, building ponds- seems quite important in animal related work, so I should probably work on that. And get exercising more often- maybe going on long walks or hikes too.

I’d also like to think I’d still be writing, and maybe drawing too. And that I’ll just sort of become a more confident, interesting person- the sort that maybe when I’m with people, they won’t be always checking their phones and there won’t be periods of silence that feel like they’d have been filled if someone other than me was the one there.

Tiger Millionaire: Describe the backstory for a character you’ve created.

Well, this is kind of difficult without spoiling parts of my novel or askblog.

We’ll go with Tenmar Irese. This is a really long addition to an already really long post, so I’m going to put it under a read more.

Tenmar was orphaned very young. He was homeless and began stealing food and material scraps to keep himself warm. Often he would come foul of the palace guards (police force) and return home bruised, hungry and with his findings confiscated.

Every day as he was scavenging he would pass by the mercenary guild and see the apprentice training buildings, with their big mess halls with wide windows and view inside. It looked warm, the people not only looked well-fed, healthy and happy- they looked strong, strong enough to protect themselves from anyone. He envied them and soon his greatest wish was to be one of them.

One day he was spotted stealing expensive jewellery and was chased by the guards. They managed to send him running beyond the wooden walls of the city, and once out it’s impossible to get back in without passing inspection by the guard. So he was forced to wander the wild forest. He was too weak and inexperienced to hunt any animals- which were scarce anyway- and eventually crawled into a big mound of earth and fell asleep from the cold and the exhaustion.

He awoke warm. When he opened his eyes a dragon was staring down at him, her young nestling watching him curiously. He’d crawled into their nest. The elder dragon had a faded mark on its forehead- a familiar who had lost her partner. She dropped a hunk of fire-roasted meat in front of him and from then on he was part of their family.

He lived the next few years of his life with them. He learnt how to hunt and to fend for himself, he befriended the nestling and the two of them grew older together. Dragons are sentient creatures and this one brought him books and clothes and made him spend time in the nearest small settlement she could find nearby- determined for him to keep contact with his own. The nestling became his familiar and he named her Firah. But despite being strong enough to look after himself, despite having family to look after him, he never forgot the mercenary guild and how amazing it’s workers were- the strongest around, people who regularly went toe-to-toe with the palace guards who had terrorised him.

Tenmar went back to the city with Firah. Older, healthier and with a dragon at his side he was unrecognisable to the guards who allowed him through to try to become an apprentice at the guild. He got in and immediately became a rising star- he shot through the ranks and came to the time to pass his final exam to become a mercenary with the guild at the youngest age anyone had ever managed it. However, while he was good, he was not that good. Without a dragon at his side he would never have achieved so much in so little time. And he would definitely have failed his exam if Firah hadn’t saved them both.

During his time in training he met a boy called Erin. Erin was a few years older than him and also a star student, the two of them got along extremely well, passed the exam at the same time and were paired for missions. Over time they became closer and closer until the friendship developed into romance.

Shortly after passing the exam Tenmar met Kayira for the first time. Before him she had been the youngest to ever pass the exam. Once a member of an elite family famous for producing excellent mercenaries, she had been disowned until she could make up for the dishonour cast on her by being ‘shown up’ by Tenmar. She immediately hated him and of course this caused him to dislike her- insults and curses were constantly flung between them and Kayira did her best to undermine him wherever possible. Her view that he was a weakling who passed too early thanks only to his dragon was shared by much of the guild. It was also said that he was being unfair on Erin- who it was rumoured was being forced to shoulder most of the work, given his weak partner.

Erin and Firah were his sole supporters during this time. Made reckless by Kayira’s taunting and determined to prove he was worthy of being a mercenary Tenmar- during a mission- led the enemy to an area Firah couldn’t follow and tried to take them on on his own. He failed and instead Erin died protecting him.

When he next saw Kayira she began taunting him again. When he broke and told her how Erin had died because he was too weak she couldn’t seem to find a response.

Later, his guild allotted mourning period over, Tenmar had to be assigned a new partner: it was Kayira.

She no longer taunted him, but the two didn’t get along and she was much exasperated when he acted incorrectly on missions- but after being forced to do a lot of thinking, she was trying to be nicer to him.

Over time the two got to know each other better, they learned the reasons behind each other’s actions and learned how to forgive and forget. Kayira took it upon herself to help Tenmar become a much better mercenary- one who could stand on his own two feet- and he began to look up to her as his wise senior. She supported him through his grief and he helped her realise the abuse prevalent in her family and help her leave them behind for good.

One day they were given a mission: to hunt down two dangerous hybrids (between spectrumosa and deishani; these are the 2 humanoid species in my novel) and dispose of them before they could harm anyone.

They set off to carry out their mission. Following stories of sightings until they were able to pick up on a physical trail.

They neared the end of the trail and heard voices in the clearing beyond. The figures couldn’t be seen clearly through the brush, but they could be pinpointed well enough to launch a surprise attack.

Kayira and Tenmar carried out their plan quickly and precisely- two trained mercenaries on a mission and then they had their quarry trapped, backed up against a tree, Firah curled behind it. They took a good look at the two ferocious hybrids that they had managed to capture. And stopped. This wasn’t right.

These were two kids.

Uh, well done and thank you if you’ve kept with me through all that. Tenmar’s a favourite character with a fully developed backstory. I apologise for subjecting you to it in it’s entirety- I tend to ramble when I get the chance to talk about my OC’s.
