#skybound confession

So I'm actually a fan of Arcee becoming Magnus and Elita becoming a Prime in Skybound. My issue how lazy the names are (plus, it implies Ultra Magnus was just "Ultra" before which is... Kinda dumb). I can't tell if it's a Kirkman thing or a Hasbro meddling thing, but either way, someone with better naming conventions needs to take over~

I dropped skybound transformers for many reasons but one of the most unforgivable is the way they just kill off characters. Let there be build up goddamn it instead is shock value moments

I've seen so many people baby and glaze Optimus and act like Elita one is the anti-crist even though they have done equally as horrible things (You could argue Optimus has done more horrible things but I digress) and it's really pissing me off and I hate to say this because this argument has been beaten to death but it really is misogyny and an unwillingness to engage with Elita ones character. She is just as tried and traumatized as Optimus is but unlike Optimus Elita wasn't able to be in stasis for 6 million years than wake up to a planet beautiful bright and full of life then finding a new propose in that. No Elite was fighting for that 6 million years against Shockwave no less she wasn't allowed kindness she wasn't allowed beauty or life she had to watch her comrades die one after the next so of course she can't she the bigger picture or doesn't stop to think before and acting causing her to make rash decisions because when you are fighting a losing battle there is no time to think because the next thing you know someone else is died that is on you. Elite one is more than justified in hating Optimus prime and calling him a traitor because of most of his actions that have help or tried to help earth have put Cybertron and the Autobots on it another foot in the grave so many of his actions are selfish and no talks about it.

If this wasn't obvious km talking about skybound. I know it's bad to get this angry into character and a fictional story but when people make a comment or video that sounds like they have been reading this comic with their eyes close and don't read more into the story outside of hype moments it's really hard not to. Also I know Elita one has done a lot of bad things too but they have been picked apart and pointed out so much that really is no use. I'm probably going to take a break from skybound and anything relating to it for my personal health.

Okay, I've been in fandom 84 24 years, but some of y'all anons still have me trippin' out.

First - I am begging some of y'all to check yourself before you wreck yourself. Please for the love of Primus look up the terms you are using. Yes, first actual confession here - the anon that said Megatron canonically groomed Orion Pax still lives rent free in my head.

And that ties into point two - "Carrier" is a common noun, not an indicator of bigotry. Confession number two, I don't like the word either! I've been pregnant twice, and besides my joking about the word invoking images of the USS Kitty Hawk more than a pregnant Ratchet, the idea of being called a "Carrier" for being the one to give birth actually does squick me out a little.

But that's the key word there - "squick." It's personal to me, not an indication of someone else's moral depravity or whatever.

We can and should discuss how misogyny and other types of bigotry show up in Transformers media and fan works, but I can guarantee that singular words (aside, of course, from slurs) generally have little to no bearing on these conversations. Heck, adding in a gender spectrum or including mechpreg also doesn't automatically result in misogyny, nor does the exclusion of those concepts. (Top/bottom discourse, character designs of male vs female Transformers, etc.)

Third, and to end on a less serious note, I am unreasonably delighted by the slight under-bite/lantern jaw Dan Mora gives to Thundercracker in the Skybound comics. I actually like how the artists on those books also managed to use design to differentiate Skywarp and Starscream too, but Thundercracker's lil bulldog jaw makes me so happy. They gave him his lil boomies and the Autobrand too, and that dang underbite is the reason I even started reading those comics.

Skybound Elita One should be a test whether you understand nuance. Concerning amount of people thinking she’s supposed to be a straight up villain

I recognised the writing issues a lot of tf media has, and... with how people are tumblr (and tiktok) side at least I am a little scared to be too vocal about liking skybound.

Issues? Sure. But I'm enjoying it. I'm enjoying the energon universe. But there's a small part of me that if I'm a bit too vocal about enjoying it one of *those* sort of people will wish death upon me or something like what one person did when I was vocal about thinking TF: Prime was overrated and that I don't like Starscream (which was very funny but still)

since there is a chance that blitzwing is going to be introduced properly into skybound (stasis body seen in issue 27) and in the answering letters section of issue 30 there is a question thats >> "-- If blitzwing gets revived can he have his 3 personalities from transformers: animated" with the answer being ; "I do love TFA… as is becoming clearer and clearer as my run progresses"

as much as i love plural characters (whether implied, headcanon, or canon) i do hope its handled with some sort of care. sure big massive alien robots so i do think the process is going to be a little different for developing a system.

main concerns is just how kirkman (and whoever else) is going to handle it. i hope it does not go down the path of horrible DID/OSDD stereotypes that are just outdated and generally horribly handled. i don't mind blitzwing being a system in other contintuies, i love representation. so its just the fear of how it would be handled.

and seeing how springer was introduced in void rivals, he didn't have multiple personalities due to being a triple changer so maybe it is different for skybound canon?

I'm probably the only person in the fandom who thinks this but....

Personally, I think Skybound is overrated and overhyped. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the darker and mature writing, character development and that they don't shy away from actual war horrors. But it still felt more like a gorefest to me. Starscream is basically Christopher Nolan's Joker on steroids and I straight up don't like the new Carly. I feel like uncultured swine when i see everyone talking about how Skybound is the greatest thing to happen to Transformers in a long time but honestly? As bad as IDW is, I prefer most of its concepts over Skybound. At least Skybound shouldn't be doing Autobot Megatron anytime soon.
