Beginner witches: Skye Alexander is not a reliable source.
There is a great deal of misinformation and fetishizations of non-European cultures in Alexander's books. She compares mythical creatures to Lolitas, perpetuates the myth of the Burning Times, belittles systematic racism to claim that witches are more oppressed than ethnic and religious minorities, and promotes stereotypes across various practices that are borderline racist.
She stereotypes shamans and appropriates spirit animals and spirit totems. Her treatments of working with deities are misinforming and even disrespectful (like summoning a 'parking goddess' to find a free parking spot).
From The Modern Guide to Witchcraft:
"For centuries, mainstream religions have encouraged negative images about witches - and during a period known as “The Burning Times” these false ideas led to the deaths of countless innocent people in Europe and the New World."
"At least for the time being, you’ll have to live with being constantly offended by the ignorance of people who would never think of insulting Blacks, Jews, or other folks so outrageously as they do witches."
