☁️Skylanders Redesigns - SSA Air☁️
Just one more element to go! :D
Aaaaaand here's another random redesign. This time for Chopscotch, whom I decided to turn into an undead Gremlin. She's a lot more intense than her game counterpart.
She's also more of a villain, that part's different too. She's not a good person and is a complete anarchist. Junker Queen from Overwatch is a good comparison personality-wise.
She's a blast to draw. Turning her into a small, buff, undead Gremlin turned out pretty interesting design-wise.
Here's the highlights:
No connection to the Skylanders. She's the leader (kinda) of one of the 10 Crowns of the Underworld. A region known as the Neon Stacks.
She was inspired by Wolfgang into revolting against the previous leader, killing them. Now she wears their skull.
She hates the entirety of the Brightlands, including everyone in them, and has been trying to rally the other Crowns to invade.
Her closest allies are The Crooked Shepherd (Funny Bone) and The Dreaded General (OC).
Her axe works by Norse mythology Mjolnir rules. She can only wield it when she has her gauntlets on and it'll automatically return to her when thrown.
If you couldn't tell, she's not very good at making friends. She's plenty good at making enemies though!
It is only now as I'm writing this that I realize I forgot about her rhyming schtick. Oh well, maybe she likes poetry?
I'm working my way through the dragon designs, I wanted each of them to look and feel entirely unique through body plan, abilities, and personality. Spyro is the most recent one I drew, and he gave me quite the bit of trouble. I did find a design I felt suited him though.
So here we have the great purple dragon in all his shining armor!
Important notes:
After the death of Eon at the hands of Kaos and his artificial god, the Hydra, Spyro was thrust into a leadership role he was not at all prepared for.
Spent the first three years of the war trying to gather the surviving remnants of the Skylanders into something that could even attempt to fight back (Spyro's Adventure.)
In that time, Spyro's abilities have evolved, he's now capable of recycling surrounding energies and attacks into the original draconic elements.
Most of Spyro's relationships have become strained under the weight of his new responsibilities.
Sees Cynder and Alexander (Chop Chop) as advisors and Niago (Whirlwind) as a daughter (I'll explain why when I get to her design.)
Cynder teases him for his "baby face" and being so short despite his age (he's 30 and Cynder's twice his size at 28.) He doesn't react to it that often anymore.
He's become irritable and tired, losing most of the spark he used to have.
Neglects his health unless forced to take care of himself.
Honestly, Spyro's design was one I was dreading to make, but it came out much better than I'd feared.
I have traumatized this poor guy. Sorry, not sorry.
My Tae Kwon Crow design for the Skylanders Anniversary Collab
I need to get better at drawing birds.
Might as well post this too.
Weeping Willow is my rewrite/redesign of Hex from Skylanders
I don't actually have much of a backstory for her yet. I don't even know if Skull (I think that's his name) is canon in my continuity.
But here's what I do have. Note that this all may be subject to change.
Willow is currently one of the few characters in my AU that are actually part of the Skylanders. I know. What a bombshell!
Despite being an elf, her lifespan has been drastically reduced because of her use of Fleshcraft. She's sprouting greys and she's not even two centuries old!
She's close friends with Lady Cynder and Riley Rosu (Roller Brawl)
She's a healer above all else, its what she uses her Fleshcraft for. If she can save someone, she will. No matter what happens to her (Riley teases her about her 'martyr complex,' but it's more out of concern than anything humorous.)
She's frailer than a sunbaked twig fighting against a truck. She shouldn't be left on her own.
She's always tired.
That's it for now, if you have any story suggestions I'm all ears.
Today's design is of Mesmeralda, who I wanted to give more importance to in my au. Trust me when I say that I like her game design, but when trying to figure her out I found most of my concepts pretty bland. So I decided to make a few changes to the layout of her body to make her look more spider-like.
So here's my tiny mafia spider granny -
Mimsy Pauper, better known as the Toymaker. The greatest crime lord in all of Skylands.
On top of that, she rules the 2nd Crown, known as Wonderland. A small but powerful nation infamous for their intelligence network. A spiderweb of informants and spies planted in every corner of the world. Perfect for a mob boss, right.
She took the crown after her wife's death, slaying the nation's council of elders to do so. She felt like they weren't doing enough with the knowledge they had, and decided to take that responsibility upon herself.
She's got a lot of people in her pocket. Many that we know are included in that list.
She views the Skylanders like she views most people. Another string in her web to pluck and weave as she pleases.
She's Tiger Lily's (Stealth Elf) "grandma", as in she sees her like a granddaughter, sending trinkets to her Little Lily every once in a while. Tiger Lily finds it hard to believe her sweet little Granny Mimsy leads the most infamous crime syndicate in recent history.
Oh, she's also only about a foot tall.
Lookie here! A whole batch of redesigns comprised mostly of Ifrits. I actually did these character's designs over a year ago, but I decided to breath some extra life into them.
Aad'Sol - I only drew the hound's head last time I designed these guys, so I drew them in their full glory this time.
Vivienne Al'Jabaan - For the rider character (I call the two of them Ruff Ride btw) I changed their colors and outfit to match with the others more. A lighter outfit makes it more reasonable for the hellhound to carry them around.
Aster Al'Jabaan - Ember didn't change much from a year ago except for simplifying her armor a bit and changing her weapon into a more portable double glaive that can be split in two.
Lavender Aileen Sanheo - For Torch I buffed her up a little, messed with her colors to match with the others, and gave her some more prominent scars.
Story notes that I've condensed down -
Aad is one of the last living hellhounds in existence. He's a bit of a downer but he never let's himself drag Vivienne down into the same pits of depression.
Vivienne is the youngest. Brash and reckless with a thirst for adventure. A real headache to their great aunt Aster and caretaker Aad. They get along great with Lavender though.
Viv was raised by their great aunt after an ice dragon attacked the Spirit Blooms and killed their family.
Aster is the oldest of the ifrits. She's abrasive and cynical, worn down from watching her people's numbers slowly diminish throughout the years. She's wary of Viv's friendship with Lavender. She thinks the blacksmith's a bad influence.
She used to have the same energy as Vivienne, but betrayal and responsibility beat that out of her a long time ago.
Lavender is a passionate and optimistic young woman despite her scars. She lost a hand? Make an attachable flamethrower! Lost your Grandpa? Make sure his efforts are never forgotten! She will always find the silver lining.
Lav is the Spirit Blooms' last Runesmith after losing her grandfather in the same ice dragon attack that left her with the numerous scars covering her body.
