That kiss in ep 3 has been on my mind, so much so that here i am a couple of days later, still struggling to make some sense of it. 

i think what threw me off was that i wasn't prepared for what it means for sun jae to force himself on her. i wanted him to stay the innocent puppy dog.   

i mulled over whether she wanted it too just a little, just to make myself feel better about puppy dog. but that's not the point. puppy dog pounced. it's a desperate pained move. it's not romantic. if i had to take a forced kiss in a drama, i'd take this one over the hundreds of other forced kisses that are passed off as romantic even when they are plainly violating. 

but i was too caught up with him. this kiss is not about him, it's about HER. specifically, what the drama is interested in is what she chooses to do with him after. 

i don't like that what brings him to this moment is manpain. but what's different about this is that his story isn't all that interesting. he's an open book after all. she's the one we want to follow, and the drama makes this clear i think. 

that's why we don't see her face in that kiss. it's a kiss that is fraught with confusion and shrouded with ambiguity. we aren't sure what is going on just as surely as hye won and sun jae don't quite know either.  

but in the next moment as we follow her into the house, i figured that the kiss was nothing but a build-up to this, the question of what will hye won do? what does she want to do? we see the gears turn in her mind. he's ripe for the taking and she knows it. while she makes tea, you bite your nails. what will she do? it is also the first time we ever see her agonise over a decision. 

and what margerykempe said is true--she turns the kiss around and regains control. that's the whole point of inviting him in. and then i come to realise is that hye won really is the ULTIMATE operator in more ways than one. she scares me! am i prepared to see her do questionable things with her power?
