Trigedasleng Musings

So, if you go along the conventions of how fur and clothes are named...

fur - biskova (beast cover, essentially)

clothes - bakkova (back cover, essentially)

Wouldn't that make a hat... melonkova?

Since head is melon and a hat is a head covering. (or is there already a word for hat? officially, there's no word for it in the dictionary.)

I've made a new conlang Grambank entry for Trigedasleng! Jessie Peterson created a Google Sheets spreadsheet that conlangers can copy and fill out in order to share their work. I did one previously on High Valyrian, and now the Trigedasleng one is finished.. This won't tell you everything about the language, but it'll tell you a LOT in a very small space. I just wanted to check two translations, if that's ok. Grammar really isn't my strong suit. I made a song called 'Hodnes en Jusdreinin', which I'm hoping translates to 'Love and Bloodshed', otherwise I'm gonna need to change some filenames. And for the lulz, would "Thanks, I hate it" be "Mochof, ai fleim em op"?

Almost! The first is fine (though it'd be jusdreinen), but for the second, the roles are reversed, so it's actually Mochof, em fleim ai op.

beja, slengheda, can we get a trigedasleng word for "cruel"? Slakkru came up with jofri several years back, but that feels dated now. Maybe just krul? The english word does have a certain pithiness that feels apt.

Re: references, what matters is how much they were relevant at the time of the Second Dawn. Now, having said that, it's 2023, and, you're right, Joffrey isn't a household name anymore, so he logically wouldn't be in 2042, so yeah, it doesn't make as much sense. But it does make sense for there to be frozen cultural references from the 2040s (i.e. things that would've still been relevant and discussed in the 2040s). Some of that will be stuff from our era, and some of it will be future stuff we have no knowledge of yet—or can make up.

Thanks for asking! It's fun to come up with stuff for Trig., and I'd really like to keep doing it—as well as incorporating community vocab., and putting out new versions of the Trig. document. And expand the wiki!

Hi! I'm writing my bachelor's thesis on sci-fi conlangs and am including Trig, and I have a quick question :) You state in the Trig reference grammar that there are three specific preposed particles (and numerals) you can optionally use to indicate plurality. Trig does have a word for 'all,' though, but it is not indicated as a preposed preposition that can indicate plurality. Can 'ogeda' not be used as such? (so, could you not translate 'all weapons' with 'ogeda shuda,' for example?)

No, it can't. It has some very specific uses as an adverb and as part of a compound prepositions, but it's not an adjective like that.

Trigedasleng Musings

You know, leida and leidon both mean "bye" and seem to be interchangeable, but I get the feeling that it wouldn't be 100%.

So it would make sense that it could have to do with time, as in leida means "bye, but I'll see you soon" and leidon means "bye, i don't know when I'll see you again/it might be a while before i see you again".

Either that, or having to do with formality, leida being more casual and leidon being more formal. But considering Trigedasleng doesn't really seem to have formal language beyond titles, I doubt it would be a formality.

Am I onto something or making a case for something not there?
