Rec note - No Snape/Black rec list will be legit without including the amazing art from this artist. They orphaned their works. So I am not going to use their pseud. But definitely check out their other works by searching for Snape/Black art on AO3. The style is absolutely unique. Brilliant storytelling in art.

Hollow Moon

Sirius Black is stuck in Grimmauld Place. He has a seriously fucked up headspace. The dreamlike prose adds a lot of complicated layers to how he feels about Grimmauld Place, his mother and Snape.
A lot of story without a lot of words. Dream exposition is pretty common. But this fic does its exposition in the waking after dreaming period. It can be disorientating. I really love the Sirius characterization here.
It's got a soft ending with Sirius kind of finding his peace with Walburga's portrait, Snape and with his own inner demons.
Rec note - This has a brilliant prequel in the pilgrim soul in you.

Sirius is convinced that Snape is plotting something. He stalks Snape and finds out what exactly Snape is plotting.
Tasted a little like doggy treats, too. The expensive ones he didn't like anyone to know he snacked on.
Honestly I am never ever going to forget this sentence to describe Snape's come. It's a hot and funny fic!

This fic is my guilty pleasure. It's hilarious and in character. Sirius is teaching Snape to become an Animagus. Lots of Shakespeare. Of course Snape's Animagus isn't exactly what he was going for!

Classic amnesia trope executed really well in darkfic format. Snape forgets. They end up in a relationship. But time is running out before Snape gets his memories back. We get to see Sirius thinking about the past and the future. Open ending.

Genre - Angst, Dark
This is a legit darkfic. Sirius goes to a prostitute and pays them to hurt him. Snape finds out. Because of Order security reasons Snape takes on that role. Sirius has a seriously fucked up headspace here.
Sometimes the fic can get dramatic. Whether that works for you will be depending on your taste.
Overall it's got an unusual/unique premise and a solid Snape characterization which I really liked. It's written before OoTP.
As Sharp as Sunlight

Genre - Dark, Voldemort Wins AU
My favorite The Handmaid's Tale AU. Brilliant, dark and totally fucked up. Sirius, Harry, Remus and Hermione are Voldemort's prisoners. His plans for them are creepy/evil/scary/squicky. It's really dark. But it's pretty well balanced and doesn't get overdramatic. The fic has a bittersweet ending.
Slowly, But Exceeding Fine

Genre - War years, hurt/comfort, happy ending
Beautiful fic. It's got the hot smut, it's got the tension/stress of the war years, it's got two stubborn men and their self sabotage. I love the characterizations, the relationship dynamic and the plot. Things work out and we get a happy ending. But it's really a happy ending that feels earned.
The writing here is one of my favorite styles. It takes a backseat to the story and supports it. It's really hard to describe the style. It changes based on what the story needs in each scene.
I really love how this author writes war scenes. The writing is action packed and has a visual/movie like quality. There's a lot of creativity and brilliance in how they set up the action for the final battle. Most of their fics are written before OoTP/HBP/DH. So it's 100% pure imagination about how the war ends and they do an amazing job with it. The writing is also gentle. It tackles some really complicated plots. But the gentleness in the writing makes it easy for the reader to follow the plot.
Repechage
FabulaRasa (2005?)
Genre - Enemies to lovers, angst with a happy ending
The characterizations in FabulaRasa's fics don't always work for me. But I really love their fics because of the uniqueness of the Snape/Sirius dynamics and the wit/humor in their writing. They can write dark themes without making it feel really dark/hopeless to the reader. A pretty amazing skill!
Like a lot of fics written during this time Snape's past whump has some CSA. Sirius helps him to learn to have fun in sex. Some of the writing can be dramatic/cliched and some of the editing also can feel not as tight as it can be. But overall the fic lands a powerful story with strong characterizations for Sirius and Sev. This has an sequel in Misericorde. I personally like Repechage more. But YMMV!

This is a 2-part series.
Warnings - It's got a ton of warnings. Snape is gender complicated in this fic. But the fic isn't really about representation in the way we are used to reading in newer fics. It's a long, plotty fic written really well with brilliant characterizations. But before reading the fic you should read these two reviews. Review #1 and Review #2. If there's something that triggers you definitely don't read the fic.
Part I ends with Sirius falling in the Veil. Part II has Snape in San Francisco. Sirius gets out of the Veil and finds him. They have a really cool life. Its the happily ever after part.
Rec note - Probably my favorite Sirius/Snape fic ever!
The Paths of Glory

This is a 3-part series which looks at three major events in their story: the pranks during their school years, the death of Regulus and the second war with Voldemort.
The characterizations are gorgeous and the bitter/twisted emotions between them is just incredible. I also really like how the author characterizes them with the right level of immaturity when they are younger. But as the war goes on their characterizations get darker just like their lives.
This is a canon compliant fic. So definitely no happy endings. I personally really like it because of that. If you want to skip the MCD the first two fics of the series are great. MCD is in the third/final fic of the series.
Rec note - white_serpent is one of my favorite Snape/Sirius authors from the 2000s. Their fics don't get recced a lot now. So I wanted to highlight their work. Check out their AO3!
The Miseducation of Severus Snape
Not Exactly Dickens (2005)
Genre - BDSM, Noncon, Dark
This is a serious darkfic. Definitely read the warnings on AO3. The fic is set during the Marauder era school years.
The fic uses a characterization of Snape really popular during the time it was written. Snape's family backstory is abusive. But it's definitely not the Cokeworth backstory. Snape is still a mess.
Bred by two people so cataclysmically ill-matched, betrayed by the passivity of one and hardened by the abuse of the other, Severus was, like the union that had produced him, a volatile, dysfunctional, contrary mess
The fic also uses a plot really popular during the time. Lucius seduces Sev to get him to sign up for the DEs. But he's really disgusted by Sev. Sev isn't all that convinced by V's ideas. But he doesn't have other options. Sirius enters the picture. If you are looking for any of the more common Marauder fic characterizations you definitely won't find it here. Sirius is cruel and hot headed. Totally unpredictable. This is a darkfic. No happy ending.
Unlike a lot of fics which make one of the tormentors sort of better than the others and do the happy ending this fic definitely doesn't end with any kind of romance. Dark, intense and pretty unique.
Rec note - I forgot about this fic until /u/brightened_ao3 recced it. Reading their rec actually inspired me to make this list.

Malfoy and Snape had dueled. Saying nothing to anyone, from what I can discern, what had brought it on. A wizard's duel. But not to first blood.
Both used Avada Kedavra. And neither missed.

A Feather in One's Cap

Rita is doing sports reporting. She is really bored! She sees Minerva watching the referee. She smells a story. After the match she goes to interview Rolanda and things get interesting between them. Minerva and Rolanda are in an existing relationship. They talk about. Love how the discussion between them is written. Mature and realistic. How they approach Rita and how she treats them is done brilliantly. Happy ending. This is not a fluffy fic. Really clever and unique.
Rita was a hedonist, often a predator. She acted on instinct most of the time, like she had in the locker room. Get under people’s skin, see what happened. She liked that, the unplanned, the unguarded moment, that instant when people snapped. It told her so much about them, and Rita was not afraid of exploring those stories, whatever was hidden beneath the surface. Indeed, the more dangerous, the better.
This is a AU fic. Sirius does not have a Godfather relationship with Harry. Harry picks up Sirius at a bar. Sirius was there upset after a fight with Remus. Harry finds out and makes Sirius stop before things get hot. But Sirius goes back to Remus and they work out their problems. They decide they want to bring Harry in. Things get really complicated. It's got a happy ending!
Merlin, what was he thinking? He needed to get away from them. He'd make up some excuse not to see them so soon - practical training at the Amazon or something equally time-demanding - until he had sorted this whole mess out. He wasn't falling for them. He just wasn't.
Euphoria

It's like some terrible surreal dream, the kind you never manage to wake up from in time. Where you're caught in Devil's Snare, and the more you struggle, the less chance you have of getting free. Maybe it's the right thing to do – to stay and face this. I look from one to the other of them and meet only the same calculating grey eyes, whichever way I turn.
Make Me Smile(Come Up and See Me)

Rec - Sirius and Snape steal Harry after Voldemort kills the Potters. They take him to Snape's house. In this fic Remus is the one who goes after Wormtail. The Ministry is looking for him. He comes and hides at Snape's house. Turns out they were lovers before. A really beautiful and complicated fic. I feel some of the characterizations can be OOC. But everything works in the context of the fic. The relationship development is great.
"Sirius isn't a leader," Remus said. "He follows orders, and he measures how much love he deserves by how well he obeys." One corner of Remus' mouth twitched up. "Opposite to you, I suppose. You follow your own bent moral compass."
Rec note - bussaiko wrote some of my favorite Remus Lupin characterizations. Highly recommend checking out their AO3 if you like their writing style.

Rec - Harry wants a baby with Snape. Snape of course thinks Harry wants a threesome. With Draco. One of those fics which should be 100% crack. It's got the crack. But it's also got good characterizations and relationship development. Polyamory fics are sometimes unconvincing about how two MCs in an existing relationship bring a third MC into it. This one does a great job.
"Which would you prefer, male or female? I assume male," he added.
Harry was overjoyed. "Oh, it doesn't matter to me at all!" he assured the man. "As long as it's healthy."
Super excited to finally get the chance to rec AbstractConcept! One of my favorite Snarry authors of all time. Their fics are guaranteed to cheer me up. Absolutely brilliant and funny. Funny in fic can be pretty dicey especially in fanfics where a lot of us have headcanons about the MC's sense of humor. This author really nails the funny in their fics.
YMMV - Mpreg can be a squick for some readers. It's not graphic. Only talked about in the last part of the fic. YMMV.
Three Men

Rec - So we get a great poly relationship development. Bonus Watersports. I really love how dirty/bad/hot/wrong/fun this fic gets without compromising on showing how the relationship gets built. Really good writing. I am super impressed by how the characterizations are on point. It's the kind of fic that doesn't get written a lot now.
Tonks and Ginny are together. They dumped Remus and Harry. They are drinking together when Snape overhears their drama. Of course he exploits the situation!
How had Harry got himself into this? He was supposed to be getting drunk and feeling maudlin about Ginny, and instead he was about to be buggered by Severus Snape! He wasn't sure he'd drunk enough for this, or that he was capable of drinking enough for this.
It should be crack. It legit should be crack! But it's a kinky and sweet fic. Especially love their characterizations. A lot of Remus characterizations can get pretty serious and gloomy. This one is actually more lighthearted which I really liked.
YMMV - The kink definitely will be a squick for some readers. It's a serious kinkfic. YMMV.
The Semblance of Peace

Rec - The fic has a lot of plot and focus on relationship progression. The relationship development between the three MCs is awesome. Snape survived the war. Turns out that Voldemort also survived inside Harry's head! Voldemort wants revenge on Snape. Harry himself isn't Snape's biggest fan. The plot is brilliant and executed really well. Great writing. This author wrote one of my fav Snarry fics Penance Is The Play
Besides, Voldemort was dead. That was the most important thing, Harry told himself. Voldemort was dead for good.
Rich laughter echoed through Harry's head right before sleep captured him.
YMMV - I feel the Voldemort and Harry characterizations will vibe with a lot of readers who like the current trends in TMR/HP fics. The TMR characterization didn't really land for me. But it takes a lot for me to actually get convinced by TMR's characterization. Definitely not any fanfic author's fault. I just wasn't super convinced by canon. That's my subjective thing. YMMV. Loved the awesome plot.

Blurb - Kingsley and Snape left the country after the war. Harry is accused in Ginny's murder investigation. Harry and Ginny are married. But Draco was Ginny's lover during the time. The plot gets really complicated. Kingsley and Snape opening their relationship to include Harry is written amazingly. The take on polyamory in the fic is a slowburn relationship progression which is organic because of the other plots happening to get the MCs together. There's a lot going on. Honestly I am probably too dumb for this plot because it gets seriously complicated. But the relationship progression really stood out. It's also one of those fics which has older characters getting into a relationship and managing a lot of family problems.
YMMV - Definitely rec the fic as one of the best polyamorous relationship development serious fanfics in our slash fandom. But this fic was tough to read for me because of the length of the fic and my attention span problems. YMMV. If you like seriously longfics and complicated plots, this is the fic for you!

Any fic referencing Hedy Lamarr is amazing in my book! The Chronicles of Narnia isn't my thing in general. But this fic is an exception. It keeps the mystery and adventure vibe of Narnia which goes great with the magic of HP.

Perhaps the person who'd had it before had died, and the life of a food critic in Paris was simply too good to disappear. Or perhaps this body was to let, like a cottage in the Lake District. The food kink is surreal. I mean it works in the context of the fic. But it's still pretty surreal. It's a crackfic so good that it doesn't even feel like a crackfic anymore.

A great fic of Remus taking care of Harry after everything goes down. Aziraphale asks him to run the bookshop when Crowley and he has to go to raise the Antichrist. I really love the contrast between the Ineffable Husband domestic bickering and Remus trying to deal with horrible tragedies/the betrayal he thinks Sirius is responsible for. Crowley of course reminds him of Sirius.
“I’m, er, not much of a sales person,” he said.
“That’s perfect,” Ezra said, beaming. “Precisely what I’m looking for. You don’t have to sell a thing. In fact, I would prefer that you didn’t.”

Thomas Jerome Newton is an alien who kidnaps Snape from the Shack after the war. Harry of course goes searching. Turns out this alien was actually visiting earth to find water for his planet which is going through a drought.
The Snarry parts are beautiful <3 Also hot. But you need to get through some intense stuff before the smut.
"Biscuits," Harry reminds him.
"Haven't you outgrown your inner Dickensian orphan?" Snape parries, and summons a tin of biscuits.
It's got a really unique and powerful take on Snape's relationship with his Dad. I feel like most fics focus more on his Mom.
The rowan bursts to life from the chest of a dead man, from the chest of a father, from the chest of a man who believed in love's sacrifice as fiercely as Lily did.
Fics from this author have a general theme around masculinity. This fic has C.astrated Snape. But unlike a lot of fics about that topic this one has a legit happy ending and a really resourceful Slytherin Snape with his canon level of courage. Honestly I felt sorry for the alien who kidnapped Snape in the first place.
I had not anticipated my deathless death would find me a kidnapped castrato in a house by the lake in the dead of winter, debating cosmic pluralism with a being not of this earth.
Rec note - If you wanted something deep/weird that's going to make you feel a ton of emotions this is a great pick! It has a lot of the unique things I have seen in this author's writing - a brilliant 1st person POV, scifi elements, sharp characterizations, sacrifice, poetic prose, magic which is weird/unexplained/scary and a zoom/blur/focus storytelling style that really works. If you want a Halloween scifi vibe crossover read with a happy ending this is it.

This fic is an experience. I mean it. You don't read it! You feel it and live it. Brilliant and spot on characterizations for Jeeves and Bertie.
Glass in hand, I toasted my audience with the exuberance of a condemned man reprieved from the Agathaean gallows. Multi-coloured plaids and ascots and waistcoats galore dotted the room, whetting the sartorial appetite. Most cheering of all, the view was mercifully auntless to the horizon.
Bertie is hiding from his aunt in the safest possible location. Which is a gay bar a public house favoured by the lavender brotherhood. He meets an interesting man there.
Still, the stranger's presence stirred a pang of wariness in my breast. "Bertram," I advised self. "Own up. Admit it's not the whiff of mortician that puts you on your mettle, but the disconcerting garnish of schoolmaster."
Snape of course thinks Bertie is a nitwit! What's Snape doing there anyway? Turns out he is a Time Traveller with a message for somebody there. Message for who?
He rose from his seat – and kept rising, as he was quite a lanky old thing – before weaving toward us through the amorous scrum of twirling gents with a shoulder pat here, a tip of the homburg there, a swapping of familiar smiles and flirtatious words. He was positively twinkling by the time he washed up on our sombre shores, a bespoke-suited Venus on a clamshell of bonhomie.

I am a big fan of how this author writes the AD/SS dynamic here. It's layered and I am super impressed by how they wrote the emotional complexity in a perfect Bertie voice.
Jeeves & Wooster was so totally not my thing when I first read the books. Because of how much I love this fic I finally, finally tried them again. My Man Jeeves. I loved it this time. This fic is a seriously good sneaky sales pitch for the books honestly.
Rec note - I know what you are thinking. Omg I know this author's name. Nope, this fic is going to tenderize my heart. Don't skip the fic because of that! It's pretty different! This fic definitely has a ton of emotional complexity. But it's lighter compared to the other fics from this author. It's a great starter rec to get used to the author's brilliant writing style if you don't read darker fics in general.

I am not adding more fic details because a big part of the plot is based on suspense. It's got magic, scifi, snark and chaos on top of a great plot. The perfect fic to finish the list!
