Slateford Road, EH11
Water of Leith Walkway, Slateford into Colinton Dell.
Did you know that Edinburgh has around 49% green space, more than any other city in the UK, Glasgow is second with 32%.
This walk follows one of the most attractive sections of the Water of Leith, and my favourite part, passing through the wooded Craiglockhart and Colinton Dell I started at Slateford Road (opposite the Water of Leith Conservation Trust Visitor Centre). As you progress into the woods skirting the river there is a network of paths running through the Dells you can choose either side of the water, I was on a mission to go through the Colinton Tunnel, if you want to follow my route cross over at the second bridge and head to your left. Part of this walk is sectioned off at the moment, but stick to the main larger path and you wont go wrong, you will reach Colinton Tunnel with it's fabulous Mural. After the tunnel you will see a bridge, if you follow the road round to the right you will head into Colinton Village, I stopped off in The Spylaw public house for a wee refreshment.
If you want to do this walk catch one of these buses, 4, 34, 44 or the 36, although the 36 takes a longer route and drops you a wee bit further away, Ask the driver to drop you at Water of Leith Visitor Centre.
You mus have a look round Colinton Village and it's lovely Kirk, after this head onto Colinton Road, there is a bus stop opposite St Cuthbert's Episcopal Church the 10 or 16 2ill get you back into Princes Street.
