Hi! I just saw your post about the presentation for BTVS "Slayer Speak". I watched the video and I'm really interested. Would you be willing to share some of your research and/or conclusions with me? Great job!
Oh wow. Well, it's not really "research", I worked with Michael Adams' book + everything I had read for my college class about the processes of word formation and I used the glossary from his book and read the scripts (because he published his book before the show was over so there were a lot of things from season 6 and season 7 that are missing) to provide examples and definitions.
The thesis of my presentation was that the writers of the show used all of the traditional processes of word formation in novel ways to create what we call "Slayer Slang" or "Buffy Speak", they pushed the envelope and stimulated and influenced linguistic change in American slang. I talked about all the processes of word formation (the doc is 15 pages long...) but if you're interested in anything in particular I could a make a post. Are you familiar with word formation processes?
