Mini-review:
This was very different from what I expected. It takes a pretty simple setup and then runs with it in crazy, ambitious ways. I think its paranoia-based horror is very relatable, so a lot of the situations had me on the edge of my seat. The pacing is all over the place, though, which hurts the tension of the atmosphere at some points. Still, Jung Yu Mi does a fantastic job in a quite difficult role, and she effortlessly carries the film through its lower points. (Lee Sun Kyun is fine too, but this is the first work of his I've watched since he passed, so it was kinda weird). But yeah, Sleep is a solid psychological horror film with comedic overtones, and a strong debut for filmmaker Jason Yu.
The ending took a dark, horrible turn. But I had been waiting for a Sixth Sense-esque twist the whole time...
Also, given the tight cast and setting, this could have been easily made into a one-location story.
