Dream 23

After seeing the town in the distance for the entire day of traveling, I finally arrive at it around sunrise. The sun has started to shed its light on the riverbed next to me and the seemingly endless expanse of scorched ground. I arrive in town just as people are packing up for bed to escape the heat of the day. A guard sees me stumble in to town and looks like they have seen a ghost, "Where do you hail from, traveler?" I respond, "I come from Britain with bad tidings." He introduces himself as the sheriff and I start to explain my journey here. I am looking for fighters and scholars to prepare for the second phase of Britain's calamity. The area this town is in belongs to what formerly was Italy but their nightmare of running out of food and water caused the calamity to scorch the ground. Britain's nightmare brought forth by the calamity was of a slumbering beast from below causing the English channel to be replaced by a mountain range. We know that it can't stay asleep forever, so people set out to find volunteers to help us understand and stop it. The sheriff takes this in and thinks for a while before realizing that the beast below sounded like a video game he heard about. One where the devil dreamed up a monster plant but instead of showing up in hell, it showed up in Britain and destroyed countless buildings before being stopped. I said that in that video game, the protagonist was dead and sent by hell to stop the threat, but we don't have anyone like that. The sheriff offered the assistance of the local recently undead which I gave him a look of confusion. He explained that the frogs living on the hill west of the town had started raising people who had died in battle back to full health with no memories. It would be a kindness to them to fight in the epic battle to come. I met with these people, all having blood red tattoos made up of a patern of lines over where where they had gotten killed. We gathered supplies and I shuddered, thinking that I would have to go to France next.
