sleeping-underwater replied to your post:Does anyone know any good intros to Hindu...
Start with the Rig Veda and then after read the Upanisads (I recommend the Wendy Doniger o’Flaherty and Patrick Olivelle translations, respectively).
posting for future reference
Tag you're it
The lovely people-are-fond tagged me in a game, and as I've forgotten to do the previous few I've been tagged in (sorry! it doesn't mean I don't like you, it just means I forget to respond in a timely manner) I thought I'd do this one.
Rules:
Always post the rules
Answer the questions from the person who tagged you and write 11 new ones.
tag 11 people and link them to the post
actually tell them you tagged them
What word do you have to look up every single time you need to spell it? That'd be basically every word. Not-particularly-well-known-fact: I am absolutely horrible at spelling, which probably would have become a problem if I hadn't gone to an elementary school that didn't bother to really do spelling tests. One word that I used to always have to look up (until last week!) is pursuit, because I swear the fucking word has an "e" it it somewhere!
Is there a word (we Tumblr) people know that accurately describes your sexuality—yes or no? I guess pansexual is probably the best word? I've previously posted about how I could effectively define my sexual orientation as "attracted to people I find attractive," but yeah. Pansexual works, as does bisexual.
Can you link to one of your posts that got far fewer notes than you think it deserved? I think most of my posts get around as many as they deserve (because while I love my crack meta, I don't expect many other people to). I'll attach one that got a decent amount of notes anyway, mostly because I think it's one of the most important things I have to say. So here you have it: Fandom, Shipping, and Abusive Relationships: One Perspective (tw for abuse).
If you had to recommend one and only one Johnlock fanfic author (besides yourself), who would it be? Good god, I have no idea. Instead of linking someone everyone already knows about (Emmagrant, MildredandBobbin, MadLori, Bootsnblossoms, Abundantlyqueer, and the like), I'd say destinationtoast (who gets tons of props for fandom stats but not nearly enough for writing). Specifically, Disregard the Danger, which you should be reading right now. Seriously. Leave, read it, and come back.
What thing do you do in real life that makes it really easy to step away from Tumblr (or AO3, etc.)—that is, when it’s time to go do the thing you’re not looking back wistfully at the screen? You mean to say that Tumblr isn't real life? Shit. I'm a violist, and playing music usually draws me away from the screen pretty easily. Anything that involves my other weird hobbies/projects (like creating a high school history curriculum for shits and giggles?) works pretty well, as does spending time with friends when I'm feeling less introverted.
What was (or could have been) your first fandom? My first fandom should have been Tamora Pierce or Tolkien (my childhood was these two), but because I discovered fandom on January 11, 2013 and because the first fanfic I was introduced to was HPMOR, my answer is Harry Potter (and I confess that I like the fandom more than the source material, although I don't participate/read fanfic anymore).
Sweet or salty? I'm around 50-50, but I'd say sweet (mostly because I'm eating frozen yogurt right now and it's so good).
Uppers or downers? Is this a question about drugs? I'm gonna assume this is a question about drugs, because I know no other context for this. Uppers, only because I take them legally.
Meta or crack? Crack meta is my savior.
What did you study or are you studying in school? I haven't started college yet! When I do, I'm planning on a double major in International Relations and Media Studies (although Media Studies might end up as a double minor with Russian)...I don't know if I'll pull it off.
Will Johnlock become canon? No. And I actually hope it doesn't, because of how confused the straight community would be about John's sexual orientation. He is not the non-monosexual representation that I need or want.
And now I have to come up with 11 people. You guys know how random this ends up being, right? I tag some people every time and forget to tag others and it's a hot mess.
Uh... destinationtoast, multishipperpirateking, foxfinding, libraries-with-ladders, cryingneedforthat, violethuntress, the-navel-treatment, stephisanerd, drgrlfriend, unjapanologist, saathi1013, threewaystopcock, sleeping-underwater fuck it, that was 13 people. if other people want to jump in, please do.
My questions (some of which will be unabashedly stolen from people-are-fond, because I'm lazy like that.
What field/area of academia are you most knowledgable in? (damn, that ended in a preposition and I'm sorry)
What well-known person in that field is, in your opinion, a complete hack? (I know there's got to be at least one.)
What field are you interested in, but know very little about?
Can you link to one of your posts that got far fewer notes than you think it deserved?
Have any of your posts gotten way more notes than you it deserved? (link!)
What was your most awkward tumblr moment?
What was your most amazing tumblr moment?
What's the stupidest piece of advice you've ever gotten? Did you take it?
When you were a little kid, was there anything about yourself/your life that you really wanted to change? What was it?
I'm just learning how to drive: any horrifying/funny stories? Any tips?
What news story of the last, say, month do you think is most interesting/important/upsetting/wonderful/etc? (Link me to an article?)
