Have you seen Sleuth (1972)?
Yes
No
Haven’t even heard of this movie
i love how ‘murdered in a clown costume' is such a prominent plot point in the wicker man and sleuth. i don’t even mean in a funny way. it's this fear of degradation, public humiliation, dying as a failure, dying as nothing more than a joke to your murderer. walking willingly into a trap as it closes on you.
i saw sleuth as a teenager and Wike telling Milo he was going to die as a clown after degrading his identity, detailing his bigoted hate for him so vividly made me so deeply scared. it hit me really hard. it was one of the worst deaths i could imagine. i'd seen movies with torture in them but the idea of being a joke in your final moments…
They should have been queer Tournament - Round 1
Which character should have been queer?
Milo Tindle (Sleuth (1970 play)) - gay
Diadorim (Grande Sertão Veredas (The Devil to Pay in the Backlands)) - transmasc
how dare you make me choose

Why Milo should have been queer:
There's no way his gay ass was actually attracted to Wyke's wife. Most likely he just generally enjoys tormenting men he finds hot and no one can change my mind on that (It's actually MUCH deeper than this but if I start ranting on this topic you'll never hear the end of it. Probably will add on propaganda if he gets in the tournament)
Why Diadorim should have been queer:
Should have been transmasc. Actually, MAY have been transmasc but either way most scholars prefer the Mulan/Polly Oliver interpretation (and also it's a published book from 50s Brazil so of course there's this as well). Especially since… (SPOILERS)
The fact they're AFAB is only ever revealed when they die.
Today’s problematic ship is Andrew Wyke and Milo Tindle from Sleuth (1972)
