in most folktales about a king who, after the death of his beautiful wife, vows he can never marry a woman less beautiful than her, and so decides he must marry his own daughter (this is quite a quite a common trope) almost always involves a special animal skin that plays a significant role in the story; i think hinting at a very ancient origin of this tale

There are a ton of words that I love and just cannot translate into other languages that I study but for me German definitely has the best ones that are the most relevant to me so I’m gonna go with “verschlimmbessern” which is a combination (which the German language loves to do and I love that it loves just smashing words together) of the word “verschlimmern” (which means to make something worse or for something to deteriorate) and the word “verbessern” (which means to improve something) and the best way to translate it in English would be “to make something worse in an attempt to improve it” so it’s basically everytime I’ve stuck my foot in my mouth and ended up rambling trying to fix it and just making the situation so much worse than it originally was.
