ൠ - random headcanon

Hornet got few chances to train with the Great Knights, but of the Five, her favorite was Ze'mer. A fellow outsider whose customs and habits were noticeably different than those of most Palace occupants, as well as a formidable warrior whose skills were renowned throughout Hallownest, Hornet enjoyed testing herself against Ze'mer and earning the knight's rare, soft-spoken praise.

♦ - quirks/hobbies headcanon

Hornet never learned the full spectrum of textile magic the Weavers used, but most of her magic is silk-based and sewing is definitely a treasured skill of hers. She doesn't really allow herself to have hobbies until the Infection is banished, but once it is, she begins to expand her skills beyond the purely practical. She finds that she enjoys making things beautiful as well as functional, especially reconstructing and incorporating designs from the relics of her own culture (some of which have magical significance she's only beginning to unravel.)

♒ - cooking/food headcanon

Hornet rarely cooks for herself; she sees little need when she gets plenty of nutrition from her raw kills. Some of her favorite things to hunt are young baldurs, whose outer shell protects a succulent interior. She doesn't go out of her way to catch them, though. Food is food, and she has more important things to do.

I specifically mentioned how I adore how you color things. I am eating your coloring, it will be mine one day. You’re really good at intentionality in your pieces. But because it was a seqa class i also mentioned how I genuinely adore the stories you’ve crafted and how you reflect stories visually in a well crafted manner.

You’re an amazing artist and I’m genuinely delighted to see where you’ll go from here and what you’ll make next. I adore Linger specifically but the way you draw can captivate me to any story and I mean that genuinely.

She raided her own bed for more blankets and pillows the next night, creating a Ghost-sized well in the cushions and lining it with a few strands of silk in obvious invitation, and sure enough, they were there the next morning, knees drawn up and cloak bunched beneath them, one hand flung across her stomach, their arm rising and falling as she breathed.

after the ruins are smelling normal again, and apparently less dangerous, iselda lets cornifer bring her down to explore.

they're not planning to go far, but corny is interested in exploring nooks the little wanderer found that he didn't, and it really is safer now that the husks are acting like properly dead things.

eventually, after a few trips, they find their way to the queen's gardens. they again plan on leaving, but cornifer notices that the vicious types from before seem to be gone...?

and they stumble across why, and how: a tall, ragged guardian that somewhat reminds them of the little wanderer, but only later.

the hollow knight failed their purpose and survived yet. they went to the queen for punishment; she did not care for their presence, but she did not wish to discard them. less for them and more for the sake of her long-gone wyrm, who would have despised having the creation he'd gotten attached to to go to waste. she let them heal somewhat and sent them to patrol her gardens.

they killed the mantis traitors all and, knowing she disliked the sense of them nearby, lingered at the edges instead, guarding them from nonexistent threats.

iselda and cornifer don't cross them! but corny is so friendly, he chattered to them about his cartography and his wife right there (yes, with the huge nail, she's great with it!) and all that.

not being rebuffed, he decides to go back sometimes, always with iselda guarding him.

they become friends, after a while! a very, very long while, as hollow unlearns what they were raised and tortured to be, with only occasional visits from hornet, who's distracted with pulling what remains of hallownest of deepnest back together.

12. the unpopular character that you actually like and why more people should like them

*slams fists on table* TISO

I actually really like him? I don't find him off-putting like a lot of people seem to. Sure, he's a braggart, but his confidence is well-placed, especially if you think that he made it all the way to Brooding Mawlek in the Colosseum Trials before he died. I would love to see more fics where he's taken seriously, rather than being brushed off as a cocky, jokey character on par with Zote.

(runner-up for this answer would be Xero because "tried and failed to assassinate a god-king" is a hell of a backstory and I really really want to know more about him, he looks rad and his dialogue is so metal just aaaa gimme more badass!Xero fics please)

22. your favorite part of canon that everyone else ignores

I'm gonna say... the relationship between Hallownest, Deepnest, the Hive, and other surrounding territories. It's got to be a fascinating web of politics and alliances, and there's lots of little clues buried about the interplay between those powers, but very few people are willing to touch it. (Understandable, given that politics and social structures are really difficult for me to worldbuild, and I massively respect anybody who does it well.) And on the same topic: the void civilization has such potential and so much room to work with, given the mere crumbs we hear about it in canon, but I would love to know how a void-worshiping people worked and lived in the days before the Radiance and the Pale King.
