SlimGenics offers a 4 phase program while incorporating clean, healthy, non-processed, education and on going individualized support to help dieters achieve their weight loss goals.
I heard about Slim4Life on the radio advertising 30 days for $30. I have tried to look up honest reviews and pricing. I only found one forum that a guy had started about his experience. He was very honest about the pricing and the struggles that he went through. He only posted once every few weeks so it was kind of hard to follow. But I did get a good idea of what I would really be getting myself into. I knew that if we went ahead with S4L that the whole 30 days for $30 would be thrown out the window....BUT....I’m in desperate need of change.
Let me take a moment to talk about my own challenges with weight. I grew up overweight. Growing up I was always bigger than my friends and had negative thoughts about my image. This didn't stop me from be active though. I was in dance throughout my childhood and into high school. I was on the dance team and many other activities. In high school I knew I was overweight but it was manageable. In fact when I look back at pictures of myself I think "Damn I looked good". At the time I thought I was huge but that was nothing compared to my current situation. After high school I even got a job performing at a local amusement park. I was the biggest out of my co-workers and I know I was passed up on a few shows because of my size. I turned a blind eye to this and just kept trying to be the best that I could be but in the back of my mind my feelings were hurt and I had negative feelings about myself. I knew I would never be the small petite girl that could wear costumes that showed my stomach. I'm 5'2 and at that time I weighed roughly 180lbs. As time went on I stopped performing and moved into a management position. 7 years later I now weigh 252lbs. I am the biggest I have ever been in my life. My current eating habits are not good.....at all. I do not eat 3 meals a day and when I do eat, its crap. I have tried meal prepping and succeeded for a while. I always seem to fall off the wagon and revert back to my old eating habits. I think its because I'm so busy and I do not have any accountability. I think "one crappy meal isn't going to hurt" and then I find myself repeating that to myself over and over. I have been ready for a change for a very long time. I know people say that if you really want something then you will just do it. I have even told myself that, but I continuously revert back to my old patterns. My weight has gotten so bad that it has started to effect my relationship. My BF has never complained about my size, but I do not find myself attractive and this has negatively effected our relationship in different aspects. On top of this my mother was just put on insulin for her type 2 diabetes. I am going to bring her along for my ride with S4L in hopes that she can become healthier as well.
And so it begins...
My mom and I decided to go to Slim For Life and hear what they had to say. I knew that my mother was ready and willing to sign up that day. But I was split. I was thinking "Man these guys are going to pitch a sale to me and put me on pills that I really don't want to be on, but I'm pretty sure their way will work." The other side of me was thinking, "I need help. I'm going to do this". When we walked in we were greeted by two women. The walked us through the facility and showed us the success stories that were posted on their walls. During this I'm thinking "ok how many of these are current and how many have kept the weight off". I'm not saying any of this out loud because I don't want to discourage my mom and insult the women but I was very skeptical. They showed us a board that had the top losers for the week. The highest amount of weight lost was 9.8lbs. I asked the woman if that was even healthy and she said that the man who lost that amount of weight had just started and that the 1st week people lose more because their bodies have so much weight to lose that when their diet changes their weight loss can be a big number. She said that after the first week the average amount of weight lost throughout the plan is 2-3lbs. She walked us through the back area where there were desks with chairs used for consultations. There was also a room with a conference table, she called that the nutrition classroom. There were also a few small offices with doors. She said that after the first week the average amount of weight lost throughout the plan is 2-3lbs. She then took us to the back and took our weight. I was 252lbs and my mother was 179lbs.
We went into one of the offices with a door. She asked us how much weight we wanted to lose. I told her I wanted to get back down to 180lbs. I chose this goal because I wanted to be realistic with myself and this felt realistic. She did some calculations and told me that It would take 24 weeks (6 months) to reach my goal weight. I am still very skeptical at this point. She talked us through a binder that she had propped up on the desk. It was basically a small presentation on the requirements on our end and their end to make this goal become a reality.
This is where we started to talk money. I'm going to be very honest throughout this blog about the price of everything. I'm not sure if S4L will like that but I want to be candid about everything I encounter throughout my experience. On my next post I will talk about the pricing and list out all of the products the require you to have in order to guarantee the weigh loss.
As daunting as it can be, it feels so good to get back on track. I just completed three days of prep/cleanse to jumpstart my metabolism and return to weight loss mode for a little while. And (are you sitting??) my husband is joining me! In the last two months, we have deviated so badly from our healthy eating habits that both of us became a bit more “fluffy” than we would have liked, and are taking this week to recommit and refocus. And it feels really good.
There have been a lot of posts lately from those of you who are going through the same thing for any number of reasons, and I’m reminded how a change in schedule, added stress, illness, and other facts of life can so easily derail us. It’s not like I didn’t notice that my pants were a little tighter than usual, but boy-oh-boy was I afraid to get on that scale! But I did. And I’m glad I did. And I would encourage you to do the same. By facing the consequences of my October eating habits, I was able to get a grasp on the extent of the damage and come up with a game plan to deal with it. And I feel so much better being back on track.
I think it gets harder when the weather gets cooler. We want warm, stick-to-your-ribs types of foods, which can be challenging to make on-plan. A few weeks ago, I was out with my family in Denver, and we came across a middle eastern restaurant we decided to try for dinner. The moussaka jumped out at me, which is a delicious casserole of eggplant, lamb, and potato topped with a creamy béchamel sauce. As I was eating my dinner, I started to realize that I could totally make an on-plan moussaka. Totally.
And I did.
So this week, I ask you all to take a minute to recommit to yourself, whether you are faithfully on-plan or a little bit derailed. Ask your family to join you in trying new foods and living a healthier lifestyle. Just because you can hide that muffin-top under a cool weather sweater doesn’t mean that you should.
Peace, love, and moussaka!!!
Msaka
makes 2 servings | per serving: 1 1/2 starch, 1 protein, 3 vegetables1 russet potato
8 ounces ground lamb
10 scallions, cut into 1/2 inch pieces
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 cups eggplant, peeled and cut into 1 inch cubes
2 plum tomatoes, diced
1/4 teaspoon light salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 whole clove
1 inch piece cinnamon stick
1 bay leaf
1/3 cup water
2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
2 tablespoons light butter
2 tablespoons whole wheat flour
1 cup skim milk
pinch fresh grated nutmeg
Peel potato, and using a mandolin if you have one, slice the potatoes into 1/4 inch thick slices. Boil in salted water for 5 minutes. Drain and cool.
Heat a nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. When hot, spray with cooking spray and add lamb. Cook until lamb is almost cooked through, about 5 minutes, then add scallions and garlic. Cook for an additional 3 minutes, until fragrant.
Add eggplant, tomato, salt, pepper, clove, cinnamon stick, bay leaf, allspice, and water. Bring to a boil, cover and reduce heat to medium low. Let simmer for about 30 minutes. Remove lid, stir, and increase heat to medium high. Bring to a boil and cook until almost all of liquid is cooked off, about 10 minutes.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Coat a casserole dish with cooking spray. Create a layer of potato on the bottom of the casserole, using half of the potato. Top with lamb mixture (remove bay leaf, cinnamon stick, and clove if you can find it). Top lamb mixture with remaining potatoes.
In a saucepan, melt the margarine over medium heat. Add flour and whisk to combine, cooking for 5 minutes. Add milk, whisking, and continue to cook until mixture is smooth and thickened. Add nutmeg and a pinch of salt. Pour béchamel sauce over potatoes. Bake moussaka in preheated oven for 30 minutes. Let rest at room temperature for 15 minutes before serving.
Lose weight fast, without prepackaged meals or shots! SlimGenics offers a customized plan to safely and effectively lose the weight and keep it off. Real foods, real support, and scientifically based plans make the difference
So, I'm starting SlimGenics today. Breakfast: 2 eggs, cooked any way. I chose hard boiled because it is so much easier in the morning.
Snack: 1/2 and orange in the AM the other 1/2 in the afternoon. I am not the biggest fan of the orange. the skin stuff freaks me out and tastes terrible.
I need to drink this ThermoBoost drink. Flavor berry. It is supposed to give me energy in a nutritional way, perfect for finals!
Lunch and dinner must consist of as much protein and raw greens I can eat. I'm thinking ground turkey with some yummy seasonings and spinach salad with fat free ranch.
I also have to take all these sort of vitamins and pills to help my metabolism and health.
This weird collaboration of foods is only for the first 3 days. a cleanse if you will. and they, SlimGenics, say I should lose some pounds!!!
