Ok. Alright, you got me. This was the most gut-wrenching film experience I've had in years. I can't really give too many specifics in this assessment, because the movie shouldn't really be spoiled, but it was all way, WAY too fitting. I went from laughing at how edgy and grim the story was, to becoming sold on the humanity of the characters, to revelling in the small, hard-won victories those characters were able to achieve. I said while watching that this movie would almost be like self-harm for Abbacchio (I'm not being light here, PLEASE look up trigger warnings if you want to watch for yourself, because it's NOT fun or easy to sit through), and I stand by that. A stunning work that won't do it for everybody, but I completely get why it works for Abbacchio.
