In my friend’s woodland garden in Nova Scotia, Canada, the Cypripedium parviflorum var. parviflorum (yellow lady’s slipper orchid, slipper root) was flowering. This native, deciduous orchid thrives in moist, fertile, humus-rich soil in a sheltered site with partial shade and an annual winter mulch of leaf mould.

Phragmipedium Schroderae.
Finally I saw wild Phragmipedium in its natural habitat: Czerwiakow's Phragmipedium (Phragmipedium boissierianum var. czerwiakowianum), in northern Peru.

A hybrid of Cypripedium kentuckiense is Cypripedium 'Kentucky Pink’ (slipper orchid), a hardy, multi-stemmed, herbaceous perennial. The ideal growing conditions are a sheltered, shady site on a sandy soil. Posting early as I’m off to the RHS Chelsea Show tomorrow with a dawn start!
