“What is it with children and fairgrounds?” Jimmy asks to the person standing next to him as he looked at the queue to Kind Arthur’s merry-go-round. In front of them were a bunch of kids together, they couldn’t be more than 13 or 14. “Where are the parents? Where’s the supervision?”
Usually Jimmy wouldn’t comment, but they were causing chaos, being loud and pushing each other whilst laughing, and that meant they were falling into other people in the queue.
“Well, that was better than I expected, to be honest,” Zara said with a breathed sigh of relief. It was the first intermission during the play and they were all still seated around the long table, at least fifty people or so. “They better not pick me again though,” she complained. The interactive part of the program did not seem to sit very well with her, as Demeter, or was it Lysander, had picked her out of the crowd, a spotlight had fallen on her and all eyes were on her just as a drop of soup had run down her chin. How fucking embarrassing. “It’s such a stupid combo, don’t you think? Like either make it a dinner and a show, or an interactive show, not both. How are you going to have members of the audience participate in your play when they’re in the middle of eating roast chicken? What a dumb idea.”

It’s a little known fact for most people that didn’t know Aubrey back in her high school and college days. But oh Archery...Archery had been a passion long before she’d ever really gotten interested in primer and lip gloss and beauty blenders. She hadn’t known it would be present at the fair, serves her right for not reading the flyers, but when she saw it she pounced.
Hit the target dead center four times in a row, feeling triumphant, all sorts of “yeah I’ve still got it.” Not wanting to hog the space she decided her turn had lasted long enough, and smiled at the person observing her. “You look surprised. I guess I don’t scream traditional aesthetics of a bow and arrow proficient, huh?”
