It’s the beginning of the end of the year! If there’s ever been a time to raise your glass to another year ending, this has got to be it. Grab your dancing shoes and gather around for the countdown, we’re gonna yeet 2020 out into the night and have a grand old time doing it.
OOC DETAILS
This event will last OOC from December 28th to January 3rd at 11:59pm EST. If you wish, you may put your current threads on hold to focus on event threads, or do both at the same time. After January 3rd, please don’t post any new event starters, but do feel free to keep your event threads going if you want to wrap them up.
Don’t forget to tag any event starters that you post and reblog to @slchat with #slnewyear. This will make it easier for everyone to tell which starters are set at the event.
Feel free to have your character post about the party to our #slsocial tag! You may tag these posts with #slnewyear as well.
IN CHARACTER DETAILS
The Silver Lake Neighborhood Council and Los Globos crew present a New Year’s package for those of you not quite sure how to spend your night. There will be two main events in two locations, and you’re naturally welcome to drop in and out if you have places to be.
Los Globos ($25): From 9 pm until 2 am, the doors will be open to the greatest New Year’s Bash of the year! With two whole floors to dance on, you can party like it’s 2019 and you’re blissfully unaware of the chaos that’s lurking around the corner, or drink (responsibly) to forget all about it. To commemorate the night, make sure to take full advantage of the photobooth and all its props!
Happy hour is from 11 pm until 1 am, and in time for the stroke of midnight there will be a free champagne toast for everyone in attendance so you can end the year strong and keep the buzz going into 2021.
Silver Lake Meadows (free): If you’re not afraid to brave the chilly night and prefer a more relaxed celebration, gather around the reservoir and wish your neighbors a happy new year! From 11 pm until 1 am, there will be live music provided by a line-up of local bands—only interrupted by the council chairman’s speech and of course the fireworks display we’ve all been waiting for.
Since this is the season to be slower than usual, we want this event to be lowkey and chill so everyone can participate at their own pace. We do, however, have an additional little activity coming up, so stay tuned for the details on that.
Of all times to have left her house — so what if it had been a necessary trip, but of all time for Sharon to have decided to go somewhere, it would’ve been her luck. Not only had she decided to go out, it was her luck that she had decided to go down the exact highway that would later, while she was mid tunnel of the highway, decide to jam up. Okay, not decide, but it had felt like the world decided the most inconvenient thing for her. It was one thing to be jammed up on the highway, it was another thing to be facing a blackout in her hope, it was again another to experience both outside of her house. Why couldn’t the city have waited, that sounded selfish, but, she sighed. Sharon glared at her phone, letting out a frustrated breath. She couldn’t even call a cab if she wanted. Figuring maybe, just maybe, the jam wasn’t that bad - truthfully just trying to figure out how long the traffic jam and why they were jammed in the first place. Sharon shut her car off, it was useless to keep it running if she wasn’t moving, grabbed her phone, stepped out of her car, locked said car and realized, she could only see so much without the light of the tunnel. Stepping into the brighter space, as bright as it could be around 10pm without the lights of the city. Eyes squinting, as if it would reveal just how far this was, “do you know what happened?” she glanced over at the person next to her. “at least with the cars, I would think we’d all just turn on our headlights and go about our day.” But maybe she was being hopeful.
What is UP, dudes and dudettes? It’s time to put your cap on backwards, wind up your yo-yo and come party with us like it’s 1995!

COSTUME CONTEST
Been looking for an excuse to break out your capris, tattoo chokers, and platform sneakers? Well, search no more! To truly encourage all guests to party in style, Five by Night will be hosting a costume contest! Come as your favorite TV character, that teen idol you plastered all over your walls, or whatever else your 90s heart desires. There will be a vote — and of course prizes for the winners.
CONTEST DETAILS:
You can come as your favorite celebrity or character of the time, so coming dressed as Phoebe Buffay or Ginger Spice are equally acceptable!
DIY is king! Instead of a premade costume you could get for $20 on Amazon, we’d love to see a more unique spin on your character that you put together.
How you put your costume together is entirely up to you and there is no need to get too fancy with graphics unless you want to! Throwing together a photo set is just as valid as doing something elaborate in Photoshop.
We encourage you to keep your character’s budget in mind when putting their look together.
Duplicates may happen and are allowed -- that’s competition, baby! If you want to make absolutely sure no one else shows up in the same outfit as you, you’re just gonna have to make it as original as possible.
You are encouraged add a caption, some details if you like or even short headcanons to go with your post, or anything else you like.
Feel free to post about/discuss your character’s costumes in the OOC blog, or collaborate on a group theme together!
You can use Urstyle (a website like Polyvore), or any other site to help put together your character’s costume!
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
To have your character’s costume considered for the competition, you must post the photo/photoset to your character’s blog, and then send it to us via IM, either to the main or to @silverlakeinspo.
You can begin creating, posting and submitting these costumes now! There is no rush though, as the deadline for voting/submitting will run until the very end of the event on the 26th.
The rules on voting will be announced at the start of the event, so stay tuned!
Good evening, guys and ghouls, and welcome to the haunted mansion! It may just be that same abandoned house you’ve passed so many times, but with its real cobwebs and potentially rotting floors, it’s the perfect site for the hottest Halloween bash of the season.
OOC DETAILS
This event will last OOC from October 23rd to November 1st at 11:59pm. If you wish, you may put your current threads on hold to focus on event threads, or do both at the same time. After November 1st, please don’t post any new event starters, but do feel free to keep your event threads going if you want.
Don’t forget to tag any event starters that you post and reblog to @slchat with #slhalloween! This will make it easier for everyone to tell which starters are set at the event.
Feel free to have your character post about the party (including their costume) to our #slsocial tag! You may tag these posts with #slhalloween as well.
IN CHARACTER DETAILS
The abandoned house opens its creaky doors on the night of October 31st for all who dare enter. There’s room for all sorts of mischief and mayhem, or to just dance the night away if you’re dying to show off your Thriller moves. Grab a costume, a friend, and maybe a flashlight to navigate the darkest corners. Oh, and BYOB.
The front porch is the perfect place to psych yourself up, or meet up with your friends if you need some fresh air... or a spot to sit and plan out a Halloween prank by the flickering light of the many jack’o’lanterns.
The acoustics of the place may not be the greatest, but if you’re not too picky, the downstairs houses the soundsystem and the main dancefloor. There’s also a kitchen which is probably a health hazard but does make a sweet selfie backdrop.
Upstairs is a total of three bedrooms. One will be the location of the trick or treat raffle; one is a virtual graveyard of couches and armchairs found abandoned all over the city. The final one is... well, it’s practically empty and there’s a big hole in the floor. Proceed with caution.
The bathrooms are not exactly functional, but rumor has it the broken mirror is perfect for summoning all kinds of spirits. There’s also some nice porta potties outside for the desperate ones.
If you brave the highly questionable stairs, you’ll land in the basement. The perfect place for any would-be ghost chasers or treasure hunters. It’s chock full of old junk, most of it moldy, so who knows what you might find?
The backyard has three small firepits and some nice seating areas scattered around for those who’d like to escape all the loud music from inside. Roast some marshmallows and break out your guitar for a round of Wonderwall if you wish.
Roam around the property as you wish, but try not to tear the poor old house the rest of the way down.
THE ANNUAL TRICK OR TREAT WHEEL!
It’s back, witch! If you’re feeling lucky on this fine evening, step right up and give the big prize wheel a spin. In the true Halloween spirit, there are treats to be won and tricks to be played, but beware—some outcomes could be very unpleasant.
We have tallied the votes of your survey, and the results are in!
Winning just by a hair, we will have our first official event, a power blackout, coming this Friday, April 24th! Worry not carnival lovers, this event will be in Silver Lake’s future as well. To combine with this event as suggested by one survey taker, we will have an opt-in, thread pair up during the blackout wherein two characters will get paired up and end up in a location determined by us, the admin/fates.
Characters who wish to participate in the thread pair up, please comment their name on this post so we can pair them off with another character. If you play more than one character and wish to have them doing these paras, write both/all their names! You will have until Wednesday, April 22 to do this. Try to consider how active you will be able to be during the event week and only volunteer however many characters you can be active on during that time!
This para pair up is opt in and not mandatory to the event. Players will be making event-related starters regardless of this, and other players who wish to participate can answer them. This is just something ~extra~ for you to do during the event!
To mark the ending of summer, the Silver Lake Community Group are hosting a funfair. The theme? A Midsummer Night’s Dream! It will feature all your favorite and typical attractions including a merry-go-round, helter skelter, and funhouse mirrors. Best of all, attendance is free.
The centerpiece of the event will be an outdoor performance and dining experience centered around ... you guessed it, A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Residents are advised to book the show ahead of time not to be disappointed! Tickets are $85 per person, but they will be well worth the price: in addition to a four course meal and endless desserts (yes, endless), you will be treated to an interactive, magical performance of Shakespeare’s finest comedy!
*
EVENT: A Midsummer Night’s Faire
WHEN: The last weekend of August
WHERE: Silver Lake Meadows

Stay tuned for further details coming on the 25th, and remember, dressing up in period garb is not necessary, but we’d love to see you do it! Dress up as characters from the play, don fairy wings or a donkey tail, the more the merrier.
Saturday has finally rolled around here in Silver Lake ladies and gentlefolk, and we are ready to kick off our Back To The 90s party! Prepare for a day and night of games, dancing, and partying until the early hours!
OOC: Please read the event descriptions below, as we have quite a lot going on with this event, both IC and OOC! There will be a few separate posts coming in regards to costume competition details and other things, so keep a lookout for those too!
Don’t forget to tag your event starters with #sl90s and send them to @slchat through IM as always to make sure we catch them! We’ll tag them as event starters on the starter blog, and will be taking them down once the event is over.
