Just when you thought you’d had enough of Summertime Sadness (is that really possible?), the queen of sadcore, Lana Del Rey, surprises us with a new version of the song, which some probably believe to have been overplayed for awhile. I, for one, never thought so. After all, other than the nostalgic original, there were many amazing remixes of Summertime Sadness too, including Kaskade’s remix which will forever remind me of the producer’s nighttime headline set at Outside Lands Music Festival a few years ago. The new “Slowed Verson” of Summertime Sadness is a dreamy lush, orchestral florid take that almost feels Sufjan Stevens like in its instrumental intricacy, but more grand and imposing, wondrous and cinematic. It’s certainly a different rendition of the hit single, one that arrives fittingly during these crisp autumn days.
