I feel like megaman fans don't discuss shadow coating his weapons with "unique and deadly liquid material that causes mechanical malfunctions"
shadow man are you venomous? do you have robot venom? because that's cool as hell
i'm gonna use this as an excuse to talk about my headcanon. that all of ra moon's dolls are hilariously hazardous, to fit with its whole "all conscious beings should die in abject agony because i hate them" philosophy. the black/"shadowy" portions of shadow man's body are made of a deadly substance that can shift phases and be transformed into weapons. so in my mind shadow man's shadow blades aren't just coated in venom, they're literally MADE of it. shadow blade can also "melt" into whatever it hits to cause further problems. bc the world rlly needed that.
Hello and welcome! My name is Veed (they/it/he please). I am an artist + volunteer naturalist.
This is a place for my art and creatures. I post a lot of pet bugs and Pacific Northwest nearshore wildlife, so be careful if you don't like creepy crawlies! I also occasionally post artistic nudity.
I'm currently mostly working on art for Sea of Spires, a sci-fantasy setting with speculative biology elements.
I also have the planet Attis, an older hard scifi leaning project that I'm in the process of dusting off.
PLEASE feel free to send me questions! I love answering stuff about my worldbuilding!
What do you think Gyro and Stone’s relationship is?
they bring out the stupid in each other
well... canonically they were built to work together specifically! they're each other's first friend, old pals, partners in dumbassery, yadda yadda. their stage musics reference each others' endings, they get a combo attack in megamix, honestly it just seems extremely obvious that they are Best Friends.
they hang out with each other more than with anyone else in their line. often they'll work together on errands and missions or whatnot. they know each other very well in that non-explicit way you do with long-time friends.
I rlly like the idea of them rubbing off on each other. Like sometimes gyro will invoke stone's stubbornness. And sometimes stone will invoke gyro's judginess. And it's annoying as fuck for the people around them but it's super funny and cute to me. Y'all have spent way too much time together lol
yapping about/analyzing mm5 character designs pt. 1: gravity man
i love gravity man's design so, so much and YOU SHOULD TOO!! there is actually a ton of things to dig into with this design but i've never seen anyone talk about it!
so let's answer the question: how the hell did they manage to convey the concept of GRAVITY in a robot master so well???
we'll start with the obvious. as residents of earth we think of gravity as a downwards force. gravity man's design is full of downwards movement. gravity is a big fucking dorito. you may have noticed his record-breaking shoulders. perhaps the triangle on his helmet. his triangular shape language gives the impression he's pointing down towards the earth. in addition, gravity man's big fucking shoes, which look reinforced with those yellow bands, and with midsole lines that are usually only seen on bigger rms like stone man, give the sense that he's seriously digging into the ground from the force of that downwards movement.
gravity man is wearing a belt reminiscent of a wrestler's heavyweight championship belt. even aside from the name, these things are known for being HEAVY!! (up to 20 pounds ish). weight is defined as the downwards force on an object due to gravity (mass x acceleration from force of gravity). this is an extremely cool and clever detail
gravity man is very apple flavored. he is shaped kind of like an apple slice. he is colored like an apple (reds, greens, creams/yellows). he is newton's apple. (and he also explicitly references newton in his smash bros ultimate dialogue fun fact!)
gravity's metal hat thing looks a lot like slotted masses. slotted masses are basically discs with set masses that you can put on a weight hanger. discs with different masses have different sizes. they're often used in physics experiments! (for testing forces and whatnot... such as gravity). given how spark's helmet is a spark plug, i'm inclined to believe gravity's helmet is also supposed to reference a specific thematically-fitting object.
5. my guess is that the thing in the middle of gravity's chest is supposed to be an analog multimeter, a tool that can measure voltage/current/resistance (also used very often in the physics experiments he loves so much). (EDIT: if it IS an analog multimeter, those two wires he has on his hips could also be part of it.) Alternatively it could be inspired by analog weight scales. either fits! Or it could be a reference to some other type of analog instrument meter i just don't know about.
6. finally, gravity man is a physics researcher whose stage takes place in a gravity research lab. i LOVE how his design looks like it came straight out of a zany american kid's science show from the 80s. the tubes on his stomach. the analog meter on his chest. the hammy "G" on his belt. all of these comically extraneous details actually come together to sell a "gadgets and gizmos" aesthetic! it's a really unique and fun way to emphasize the "science" angle!
in conclusion. gravity man's design may be my favorite out of his entire line. this is probably gonna be my biggest writeup lol. i hope you learned to appreciate gravity man's design a little more today :D
it's still so absurd to me that out of all the mega man classic rms, they decided to give NAPALM MAN of all characters the friendliest circle shape language. Just look at him. No points. No edges. All round. He looks like a squished grape or perhaps a basket of easter eggs.
left-handed shadow man stuff from when i killed my right hand trying to buster only doc wood man (self-indulgent ramblings below cut)
my shadow man is quite headcanon heavy. I like his whole deal in archie where he's part of an alien clone army thing but i found it kinda weird he was built with a personality at all tbh. Or the ability to choose a new master (even though he probably knew the stardroids were still alive?) Just seems like impractical design for your giant replaceable alien foot soldier army. idk maybe they would've addressed it somehow if the comic didnt get canceled 😞
Either way. in my head, the kuiper units' capacity for learning is literally only there for the purpose of improving/innovating combat capabilities. none of them are supposed to have conscious personhood or ever be in a situation where they are treated like individuals. wily castle, though still militaristic in its own right, is nowhere near stardroid level of "let's spend every waking moment of our existence waging war against all that dares to breathe in the universe." (and my version of Wily is inspired by Ariga and rockman san wily, so wily castle isn't actually like. the worst place to be as a robot master.) with the help of extremely specific circumstances and some programming loopholes, I find it interesting to explore how a robot like shadow man could evolve a sense of "personhood" despite everything.
