right ok this might be bs because this is me just drunk rambling aimlessly stream of thought like but. i genuinely think its really really hard for a lot of trans men to abandon things like makeup/feminine dress/things that make them very stereotypically attractive as they have been taught under misogyny and thats generally how the whole “softboy uwu” subculture comes about in trans spaces. i think often young trans men are often pressured into ignoring dysphoria for the sake of conforming to whats expected under the ruse of gender non conformity, and i think its very unhealthy for a lot of us. like, 7 months after coming out as transgender i still could hardly leave the house without a full face of makeup and now, going day to day without it, it’s one of the best decisions i’ve made and attempting to wear makeup now i can recognise the panic and discomfort it gives me. i’m not saying all things feminine make trans men dysphoric and trans people should never be gnc, but i think there is a general culture (especially on tumblr) of pressuring trans men into being as feminine as possible, often at detriment to themselves, and it does, in many cases, push trans men back into the closet and leaves them unable to face the facts of their dysphoria and identity. and i dont know it’s just make me think again after the whole “lets hate softboys” thing even though i’ve only heard that term used as self descriptors from young trans men and gay men and ive had like 3 total throwback posts to 2014 ~shrimpdick~ culture. just some thoughts! ^-^
