The Small Fires Prologue is now on itch!

The full Prologue includes all ~37k words of the demo + ~45k words of brand new content! Please note that any lingering saves from the demo won't carry over properly, so you should clear them out and start fresh.

Features:

updated and edited material from the demo, including new credits and content warnings

a more game-esque start page

new settings, including toggles for autosaves, notifications, and special fonts

autosave now saves on every passage: no more checkpoints!

your MC is no longer 5ft by default (added a height variable)

special icons for background-specific and skill-locked choices

Hello again, friends. It's time for...

IF Appreciation Hour!

So, I am a slut for Dragon Age and just like, Dragon Age aesthetics overall (particularly Origins and Inquisition), and this game really scratches that Gothic fantasy itch. Kinloch Hold is so familiar since we see it in Origins, but this IF gives it new life by taking the narrative into the past, bringing us to Ferelden during the Orlesian occupation.

You take the role of a Templar living in a Circle of Magi, which I absolutely love. We've seen the mage's angle several times across games, books, and side content both official and fanbased. Instead, this game has the player step into the shoes of an oppressor and deciding how they want to try and enforce it (or not and potentially suffer consequences for either choice). After a harrowing Harrowing (haha), MC is sent off to find their Templar mentor who has absconded with a pregnant mage (undecided if mind controlled or just horny), in the hopes of finding him and bringing him, the mage, and the baby to the Chantry for justice.

So far the writing is moody, with just enough levity that really brings out that Origins vibes. And the characters are a vibrant spot against the drab Ferelden background. I am in love with Simon and I can't tell if I want to be a cougar (I think there's like a 10 year age gap; he is not actually romancable), or if I want to give him a blankie and stick of beef jerky in some twisted semblance of maternal love.

I can't wait for the rest of the characters to show up (did someone say a grizzled elf??) and also The Child you must escort/protect. Hoping for fantasy Mandalorian vibes... 🤭

This is definitely worth checking out if you like Dragon Age, even just a little bit!!

-very proudly Orlesian, and even more proudly Delacroix. Her success reflects on her family name, and she will NOT be a failure.

-will never admit how much she cares for Baker. Literally everyone can tell but the words will NOT leave her mouth.

-went to the Spoiled Princess once when she was a recruit, saw the most beautiful woman she had ever seen, and never went back. It keeps her up at night.

immediately obsessed with my awful guy from @smallfires-if. here are some fun facts about maxence

- he fights with a rapier and shortsword because he refuses to let his orlesian sword training go to waste

- still clings to the family name he’s always known he’d never get to truly keep. he has the worst daddy issues maybe of all time

- baker was his gay awakening and he’s been really normal about it for his entire life. this may or may not be connected to the daddy issues

- never been kissed (too addicted to the grind)

- his lifetime of staunch dedication to following the rules and proving himself to his superiors and being the maker’s number one most perfect talented special little boy is about to come crumbling down and he’s already bottled up several emotional crises to deal with as far in the future as physically possible or never if he’s lucky. he can’t think about how he has no identity beyond service and devotion, he has to lock in

- no one asked him to do all this. he’s just like this.
