My cat caught a dragonfly yesterday and I tried to intervene in time for it to get away. At first I thought I was too late and it was dead. But then it moved when I tried to scoop it in a box, so I left it where it was. A few hours later it had moved onto the step (it had hidden between the step and the ramp for my wheelchair) and I thought it would be best to let it be. I couldn't catch any flies for it to eat so I left it alone hoping it would recover. Today it is (I'm pretty sure) dead a few centimeters from where it was.
Now I feel that I prolonged it's death and suffering by getting my cat to leave it. In my attempt to help I caused harm.
I grieve it smally, in it's small beauty. I hope it had a good life.
