It’s been a week since I first learned that my sangha studio, @southbostonyoga will be unable to reopen. . I’m still very much in the denial stage of grief. It doesn’t feel real. . To never climb those endless steps from the bone chilling sidewalk on W Broadway in the winter to the top where the warmth of human energy, connection, compassion and palpable love danced through the air with the sweet smell of Nag Champa incense. . From my very first practice at SBY on NYE 2015, my first sober New Years, I knew this place had magic in its bones. . First a student, then brave enough to express interest in earning my 200 hour YTT with whom I’ll always consider family, @dvendetti & @toddeskoglund, to later being able to support the incredible teaching staff as a sub when sick or traveling. . It was a space I came to to walk through things. Fear. Hesitation. Heartbreak. Grief. Celebration. Loss. Happiness. Milestones. Sobriety. . I came to SBY to learn. Even as I was teaching, I was learning. Sometimes directly, but most often indirectly. Noticing the way the community showed up for one another. They way they never asked if you needed a hug & simply went in for the embrace. . Tears. Laughter. Sadness. Joy. I can safely share I’ve experienced and expressed almost every range of emotion within the walls of SBY, though not always gracefully. Growth is painful. And that’s what happened here for me. . David & Todd, there will never be words to express my unending gratitude for you both following your dreams, working tirelessly to create and sustain such a beautiful, loving, safe space for 12 incredible years. You two & your baby, SBY, have changed the trajectory of my life. . I once was lost, in the dark depths of drug & alcohol addiction, but now, I’m found through the grace & love South Boston Yoga showed me & taught me how to share with others. . Forever and ever my sangha, my hOMe. I love you all. Thank you. Thank you.
