This was probably the first image of smallpox I saw online. What’s amazing is that the website I saw it on still exists and it hasn’t changed in 17 years. Oh that blocky, bright blue font, the tiled background, the clump of navigation links at the bottom after you scroll and scroll to get there... this was the way of internet past, my friends.

I found this awhile back on a CDC page called “Smallpox Risk Evaluation Help” and I saved a pdf of the original page on my hard drive. Unfortunately, the area of the website where I originally found it has been altered considerably since I was last there, so somewhere amongst all those links are these four images. Anyway, I made them into a nice chart using the original text.
