Why My Small Rice Cooker Is The Best Kitchen Appliance I Own
I often have people asking me about my kitchen and cooking habits. It makes sense, I do run a cooking blog! But most people are surprised when I answer those questions. Especially when they ask me what I consider to be the best kitchen appliance I own.
The answer? My small rice cooker.
I'm not kidding! When I say this, people immediately ask why I would consider that "the best". It may be useful, but rice is easily cooked on the stove top or in a microwave. Both ways are quick and simple, so why would I need a small rice cooker? What's more, how could it be the best appliance I own?
Simple. Out of sight, out of mind. There's plenty of recipes that call for rice, and plenty more where rice can be added to substitute other ingredients. The more complex the recipe, the more adjustments I may have to make on the fly.
This means if my microwave is busy cooking rice, that's around 15 or 20 minutes I can't use it to melt butter or quick-boil more water. If it's on the stove top, that's one burner I can't use for something else.
Seriously, my rice cooker makes cooking easier by giving me more space to make mistakes. And when it comes to cooking, you want a lot of wiggle room!
Small Zojirushi Rice Cooker
If you've ever tried cooking your own rice the traditional way, you're probably all too familiar with just how difficult it can actually be. Warming it up is simple enough, but having it turn out in an actually edible fashion is a whole other topic altogether. It either comes out too bland, dry, or even too moist. That's precisely where a dedicated rice cooker comes into play.
There are a lot of options on the market however, so making the choice was actually quite difficult. After looking around, it seemed the Zojirushi Rice Cooker was at least worth checking out. After giving it a few test runs, I'm happy to report that it really is worth the hype.
First of all, all of the basic features you could possibly want are included here. The functionality is intuitive, and you can get flawless rice pretty easily as long as you follow the instructions. After one or two spins, it all becomes second nature. You won't have to worry about dried out, tasteless, or overly mushy rice ever again once you have this bad boy in your kitchen. I'd give it a hearty recommendation across the board!
The marketplace isn't exactly hurting when it comes to cookware, and the tinier subcategory of rice cookers is no exception. If you stroll into a kitchen supply store or even a big box department store, you'll be able to find several options. Browsing online or parking your television on a home shopping network on the weekend is sure to unveil even more that you've never even heard of. So, specific varieties such as the Tiger Rice Cooker lineup really have their work cut out from them.
Even so, I decided to give one of these models a test run. Rice makes for quite a delicious meal when handled correctly, so the prospect of improving my ability to prepare it was actually quite exciting!
The Tiger Rice Cooker I sprung for has several different settings and the ability to steam pretty much anything. It's just as handy for the likes of your favorite crisp veggies as well. When it comes to the rice itself however, I'm absolutely thrilled with the results. I was able to craft pretty much the best bowl of rice I've had in a long, long time! Needless to say, this is a brand you can definitely trust.
