I took a call at work last week about how Fairgrounds Warden was different from Fiend Hunter (FH is two separate triggers, FW is one, roughly), but the follow-up stumped me: why is the creature FW targets never exiled at all if FW leaves the battlefield before his trigger resolves? I figure it's something to do with the ability naming an object that's no longer in play, but I wasn't able to articulate why this happens the way it does.
If an ability has a limited duration and that duration ends before it would begin, the effect never happens at all.
(Also, I was the Nahiri that got engaged at Shadows over Innistrad prerelease, and I thought you might be interested to know that my fiance and I are judging our first "real" event tomorrow at that same store's Sunday prereleases. Thanks for all you do. It means a lot to us. Love, some very new and only gently nervous L1s.)
: )
Storytime: At prerelease I somehow assembled a boardstate that involved me tapping a module to get an energy and a counter, Rashmi to crew a Sky Skiff (codename Roflthopter) to put the counter on (to swing over our deeply stalled boards), and the energy scryfish Vedalken to scry into my first Rashmi trigger of the turn, every turn--and even though I lost that match, I was giggling from all the things I got to mess with and do. I felt like an inventor. You guys knocked it out.
Now you can see why I was so excited for this set. Glad you enjoyed it.

YES I’M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO FEELS THE SONDHEIM. Am here for conversational/accusatory pattersongs.
!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’ve always thought Sondheim’s mastery of lyricism was comparable in style to hip hop and rap, specifically because you have to get creative with your rhymes AND with including multiple rhymes in lines.
