Another Langst Post...
Lance was smart. Not in a mathematical or scientifically way but with language and social situations. He knew 5 different languages and was able to manipulate everybody in the room if he wanted to. Once when he was wandering around the Castle of Lions aimlessly he found a dusty old library. He dedicated himself to learning Altean, knowing it could come in handy. Eventually, he studied with Coran who he made promise not tell the others, wanting it to be a surprise. He became fluent in the language. So he moved onto the next most helpful language. Galran. Not too long after he was able to understand that as well, albeit choppily at times. However, the day he went to tell the others about what he had done, he was brushed off. Allure and Keith were discussing battle plans, to busy to listen to him. Allura had even cursed at him in Altean. Understanding every word, he left dejectedly. Of course he knew it was his fault he was perceived as the ‘idiot’ of the team. Lance had long since been making stupid jokes in an attempt to lighten the mood. The team of course didn’t realise this and ignored him because of it.
The very next day, Allura told the team they needed an inside man. They needed someone to become a spy, to infiltrate the Galran ranks. Keith, Hunk and Pidge were all discussing how risky it was and who was to go. Most appalled at the idea. Lance thought it over quietly before offering himself to go. The Paladins and Allura laughed slightly, well Hunk didn’t he just didn’t think either he or Lance was suited for the job. Coran and was the only one who thought it was a good idea and backed Lance up. The others looked at them incredulously. It was then that Lance told them. In fact he spat the words “I know both Altean and Galran Princess” out in Altean, just to prove his point. Shock had crossed Allura’s face and he was soon off. Doubt had still crossed everyones minds and if Coran hadn’t stuck up for him he wouldn’t of left.
For months Lance danced around the Galran Empire, as if he were playing a game of chess. He had gained Lotor’s trust and almost his affection, eventually becoming one of Lotor’s trusted advisors. He had managed to appear conflicted over his loyalties before ‘converting’ to the Galra’s side. He had managed to act as if he was slowly becoming more sadistic, slowly beginning to hate Voltron. In reality he was giving the Paladins the best chance possible, warning them of the places the Empire was going to hit the hardest. Translating private conversations that were occurring in front of him. Telling the team the weaknesses he wasn’t trusted with due to this. It worked well. Not a single Galra had expected a thing. Then, Lance found Matt. He couldn’t just leave Pidge’s brother to the tortures of the Empire any longer, he was witnessing them first hand but from the opposite perspective after all. So he breaks him and a bunch of other prisoners out. He obviously betrayed the Galras. During the escape however, Lance got himself captured yet all the prisoners were free. Lotor was especially furious, he had trusted Lance and so Lance was submitted to whatever horrors the Galran Prince could come up with. To make things worse, the Blue Paladin of Voltron never told him any useful information. When he spoke in English, Altean or Galran it was only insults. When he spoke Spanish it was always quiet prays for at least one of his families to come find him. When he spoke German it was curses at himself, wishing he hadn’t been stupid enough to get caught. When he mumbled in French it was wishing he would just hurry up and die already. The sound he made most often though were screams and muffled sobs of pain. Still, Lance wasn’t rescued until it was almost too late for him. The former Blue Paladin was now broken and seeing Matt, the prisoner he had went through so much to save, break through the cell doors dressed in a uniform he once called his, shattered him beyond repair.
