Do you have any tips for first time animators? Or any tutorials you've done before?
I guess for starters, every aspiring animator has to know the 12 Principles of Animation. That has everything you need to know.
once you’ve studied that by heart (and you should), one tip i can tell you is to never bother yourself with details of a character once you animate. that comes last. always focus on the movement of your animation first, so start out with sketching the basic shapes of the character. once you’ve got the movement down you can focus on those details.
people think its just making an illustration frame by frame but if you make a whole detailed drawing on one frame without planning it beforehand then You’re Gonna Have a Hard Time. also you’d probably give up after 3 frames.
For tutorials ive done before…im not sure if i can say these are tutorials but these are some asks i’ve gotten asking for tips!
Poses
Lining up the face and hair on a character
Giving your illustration a sense of depth
Choosing colors
and if this is any help for you, here’s a quick video showing the process of my short animated grad film
I hope I was of any help to you! good luck!
Excuse me, but I was wondering if you could tell us more about the programs you use! Also, you did a step by step example of how you do art, and I was wondering about the purpose of the the layer where the line work is filled in grey?
i use paint tool sai for most of my illustration!!! (you can find more info on my faq). the gray layer is just a fill to later help me with coloring by preserving the opacity so when i color, nothing escapes. my coloring is literally everywhere right now hehA so it really depends on my mood which coloring style i like. i use photoshop for effects and adjustments
hopefully that helps, but ill stream sometime if you still have questions.
