Within Sight
"I've been here! I knew I've been here. That current, that odor, I knew I remembered it from somewhere. Cecil and I wandered up this crag when we got lost as boy scouts. Oh merciful powers I think- yes! There!”
Earl extended an arm and pointed lightly clawed fingertips towards the outskirts of the city below. He hesitated once he saw his own hand against the long-needed backdrop. While he was trapped with Kevin upon the research vessel, he had lost all track of time. He had transformed inside and out. Countless hours of training in simulated daylight had turned his slender dexterous fingers into suggestions of monstrous talons.
Turning, he took Kevin by the arm and gave him a light squeeze. For all the scars and broken bones, they were free. More than free- they were within sight of home.
“You’ll love Night Vale,” Earl assured Kevin as the rocks around them fell under the shadow of a ship far above them. “I know it’s not Desert Bluffs, but stay with me. Please. For a while, at least. Gods know we need the rest.”
