More than once he found himself just… staring. Idly watching, trying not to get wrapped up in what could have happened. It wouldn't help. He'd taken to keeping his gear on around her, but he knew she could tell where his gaze was.
Was there guilt there? Yes. He couldn’t help that either. For as long as his rats had kept an eye on her in that dark, windowless room, he'd never found a way in. Never found a way to get her out. Never found a way to help her… so she'd had to help herself.
Was the mark on her chest part of it? He thought it was a bruise at first, but her healing capabilities wouldn't have left that for this long. He posed a query to the dusty air, not sure if he'd be ignored or brushed off… so he listened attentively when she replied.
His blood chilled. She'd been stabbed? In the heart? But if she “woke up anyway”, did that mean she'd been rescued? …or did it have something to do with her abilities?
“I don’t… think you ever did. I've never seen that mark before now,” he said quietly. “... does it still hurt? It doesn't look comfortable.”
