(Sound Warning) Guild Wars 2 but I added TF2's Frying Pan sound effect
Saw this post and I had to do something similar...
A few of my notable characters with a title I thought fit them best:
Emilie - Detective
Smith - Chicken Chaser
Yuri - The Truly Nimble
Sasha - Vanguard
Embel - Bounty Hunter
Knelson - Mercenary
Tagging @miragecounseling who inspired me to make this post, thanks!
I play two kinds of characters
Is he just not the most beautiful thing in the world
Smith is one of those characters who, rather than making a difference in life that results in a positive improvement, actually suffers from a downward spiral as time goes on.
He started out his life as a bandit who rose to power and attempted to form his own gang, stealing from the Asura and alike to use it against their former makers and other innocent people. He was, by no means, a good person, but he was a human.
Fast-forward to now, and he is literally a soulless machine being stuffed into a tin can, by none other than your favorite Mr.G here (who I also later wrote to be a Kryptis in disguise of a sort). He didn't lose just his human body, but his mind and soul as well, caring not for any semblance of humanity or even a basic gesture of kindness.
It isn't just "he has lost it", though; his mental health certainly took a huge dent with no signs of bouncing back, but it was not something that was beyond his control. Rather, he deliberately walked down this path of primal instincts and cynicism where he keeps telling himself that nothing matters but his own survival, the notion that becomes more and more embedded into his mind as time goes on, hence the "soul" part.
At some point, I imagine, it was possible that with his new body, he would be more than capable of reflecting on his new life, that he would use this chance to redeem himself and fight against whatever life throws at him. Instead, he walked the dark path of fighting everything life throws at him, putting him in a trajectory where he will likely never return to his former self, let alone to the road of salvation.
I decided to toy around with the idea of how Smith looked like before he was transformed into a living machine.
